Anybody know any reason why this wouldn't work? It's small, 1.4 cu. ft., and on sale for $139.99. Little thing, only about waist-high.

Will handle 80# bag of Quikrete no problem. I'm sure I'll have to change or modify the paddles, maybe even line the drum with rubber. But other than that, anybody know if/why this wouldn't work? For large batches of course, 20# of media and 20# of brass, shine 'em up!

If it helps you decide, I've considered it a few times myself. I don't believe there would be any reason it wouldn't work. (not that I know anything) :)

I just might "go into business" polishing buckets of brass to pay for the thing, who knows.....

i been just looking into this my self actually i was just searching the web on this topic!

i have a bunch of crappy brass just range pick ups i have picked up they are just tarnished and thought about getting this and doing SS media cause the cost would be a little cheaper than getting the 15lb Tumbler or about the same after buying enough stainless steel media however you get more capacity!

also you could use rubber spray paint or something i read people spraying the inside with some rubber liner paint.
here are a few on the topic i have found!

I think Jeff Foxworthy may have mentioned this during a performance. Just kidding. Clean that brass. .

I have one that has bad motor. Somebody who wants to experiment/test is welcome to it. Just gotta fix it.

Sounds like a party, I will bring the beverages. We can stand around and watch like we did down in Austin around the smoker.

You should not need to line it with rubber. Mortar and grout mixers hold water as that is what is added to make mortar and grout/concrete.

I'm thinking more along the lines of keeping the noise down, and the Thumler's Model B has a rubber liner. I also don't want the brass cases to get beat all to hell.

Use that spray sealant that is advertised on cable.

Here it is, even has discount.

Oh, sorry. It would be a good idea then. I wonder if some of that spray on bed liner would help?

Someone else mentioned that, certainly sounds better than cutting rubber sheeting and gluing it in....could easily be touched up too.

OK, I'm going big here. I just bought one of these today at Harbor Freight, on sale for $139.99 + a 20% off coupon, knocked the price down to $117.59. Item #91907. http://www.harborfreight.com/1-1-4-quarter-cubic-ft-compact-cement-mixer-91907.html

It's a 1.25 cu. ft. mixer, supposedly will handle mixing 80 lb. bags of Quikrete easily according to the comments, so I'm thinking 25/30 lbs. brass and 25/30 lbs. media should be dandy. Cute little thing, it's only about waist-high and about 63 lbs. I figure I'll have to modify the mixing paddles or make some different ones to agitate the brass and media correctly. We'll see.

If this works well, I'm thinking about offering a brass cleaning/polishing service locally (shipping the stuff would just be too cost-prohibitive) here in Denver. Not planning to get rich, but if I could make enough to pay for the mixer and media I'd be happy.

I figure that several calibers could be done at the same time, just as long as none of them will fit into each other (nesting), it should work fine. Like .45acp/.45 Colt/.44 Mag/.44 Special/.41 Mag/.44-40/.45-70 etc. should all get along well.

Same with most all rifle calibers in the 6mm-8mm range and all .30 calibers. Should be able to do from .30 carbine to .300 Win Mags all together. .223/5.56 would have to be segregated or done with similar sizes. As long as the necks of one size won't fit into the necks of any others, should be OK.

.38 Special/.357 Mag/9mm Luger/9mm Makarov/.380acp, those should all work together. And so on.....

Now, does anyone have any good sources for about 25-30 lbs. of SS media for a civilized price? Or any specific suggestions about the media?

Thanks!!!

I would also fabricate a lid of some sort. Steel media bounces around like a mofo just cleaning brass + media out of my Thumblers. Always picking it up off the carpet no matter how careful I am. Just a thought. Lining it would defiantly be a good idea.

I figger it'll be a learning experience that'll need some fine-tuning here and there. I have a nice, big concrete patio in the backyard to do it on, and a magnetic broom thingie on wheels, so any that get away won't get far. Since it's a concrete mixer, I doubt it'll turn terribly fast, they wouldn't fire up the display piece in the store so I don't know what RPM the drum will turn at. I'm hoping it's fast enough but not too fast.

If it doesn't work, well, hey....I need a concrete pad for the trash cans and a sidewalk anyway. Also need a patio extension to put the Tuff Shed on before it rots into the ground.

Use these instead. This way you can separate calibers in to different tire tubes. Add H2O, lemishine, mix, seal end then toss in 3-4 units into mixer. the bags will act as tumblers and also protect the brass. Take the paddles and cut down to say 2-3" then add one of those door moulding end caps.

Have you done this? Results?

Not for brass. The individual tubes allow multiple calibers at once. The tubes also remove the hassle to "line" the mixer internally. Plus with the cut paddles you have gaskets, so to speak, ready vs. filling in the holes where paddles mount.
For the rinse cycle, laundry / ditty bags so you have drainage and brass containment all in one. Drain tubes drop brass in LB and rinse off in shop sink. Shake a few times then hang to dry.

I can bring down a few ready to go if you like.
