I read this interesting piece that was emailed to me- it's an open letter from an anonymous veteran to Obama and the military leadership...

Dear Mr. Obama, JCS, DOD, Pentagon Officials,
Some of us are old enough to remember the days of the Cold War, us versus the Soviets. Some of us remember what it was like fearing that the war might turn hot. As we now look back and see the lessons from there, I continue to see signs that we're in a new Cold War. This is not one with a foreign power revolving around an international arms race. No, gentlemen, this is a domestic based Cold War, with a different kind of Arms Race. I read everyday stories of how the DOJ, DHS, and various other government agencies acquiring armored vehicles, firearms, ammunition, and various other pieces of equipment needed to wage war. What is our government preparing for? Meanwhile, our own citizens are coming out in record numbers purchasing arms and ammunition as well, in fear that legislation will make such activities illegal in the future. This is simply a game of numbers and to be perfectly honest, the government is lacking in that category. This is a game of will and spirit, and agents of the government will be tested if this Cold War ever becomes hot as these are their friends, neighbors, and customers (tax payers) they will be up against.

Much like the previous Cold War against the Soviets, if this one ever were to become hot, it will spell the complete destruction of these United States. The Republic which once stood as a beacon of freedom will be torn apart, not by nuclear winter, but by our own division. This needs to stop! Unlike the previous Cold War, however, if your side withdraws and ceases to threaten the good people of this great nation, you will not go the way of Soviet Communism and collapse. I cannot make that point more clear. My father fought in WWII against the Nazi tyrants, this time around, there is no USA to come to our aid if this administration becomes tyrannical. You must cease and desist in these threats against the people. If this Cold War becomes hot, we all lose- but the question will be who will lose hardest, you or us? My belief is that no matter how well armed or equipped your FBI, ATF, or DHS agents are, they will be fighting a similar insurgency-style battle against We The People, and we see how that is going in Afghanistan- it will be long, bloody, and expensive, both in human life and funding. Furthermore, fighting those who pay to keep you in your lifestyle and operation will result in an end of funding. I certainly will not pay a government that is killing it's own people.

How can we end this? Repeal NDAA for starters. America should never become a battleground, let the lessons of the Civil War be a good reminder of this. Second, stop your attempts to restrict our freedom. We have enough laws as it is, in fact, we have too many. Government has overstepped it's charter and the reasons for it's existence. You cannot take the arms away from honest, tax paying, lawful citizens, they will revolt, violently if necessary, it's happened before (1776), it need not happen again. Thirdly, you cannot tax the people into submission. There is only so much they can take before they have had enough and simply stop paying. If millions of Americans cease to pay taxes what are you really going to do? Nothing. They outnumber you and your agents, there is no room in prisons for all these people, and without a steady stream of operational funding you will cease to be.

In closing, do not let this Cold War become hot. Stop it now, and we can continue this great experiment in liberty. Otherwise, we will all lose.
Signed,
A veteran, a son, a father, an American.
