Anybody get hangovers? Not me. At least not anymore. I literally cured myself of hangovers. I thought I'd share in case this can help any of you.
I used to get terrible hangovers. Sometimes I'd have 2-3 beers and be completely out of commission the next day. Other times I'd have 12 beers and wake up feeling decent, but at minimum would have a headache and would spend the whole day on the couch. I would never drink before dark, because I'd be certain to have a hangover around 8:00pm and it would ruin my night. I was just a huge wimp about hangovers, and nobody else seemed to have the same issues.
About 6 months ago I didn't go to the grocery store on Sunday like usual, and didn't buy any soda (Coke, Pepsi, whatever). Monday I was fine. On Tuesday, I woke up with what felt exactly like a hangover. As the day wore on, and I felt like puking because the headache was so bad. Something was up. Could it be caffeine withdrawal? It seemed to match the symptoms.
I woke up the next day feeling fine, and decided I wouldn't drink caffeine anymore, from that day forward. I drank alcohol heavily that weekend, and woke up the next day feeling 100%, like I hadn't even had a drink the night before. I've never felt like that. It didn't take long to put two and two together, and realize that for the past 15 years, what I thought was a hangover was actually caffeine withdrawal, and that somehow drinking alcohol was just ridding my body of caffeine quickly and causing the withdrawal.
So I stopped drinking caffeine, and I have had ZERO hangovers since. Sometimes I'll still wake up feeling a little gross (like the alcohol isn't out of my system), but no headaches, sensitivity to light, etc. I can drink whatever I want, and as much as I want, and I know I'll feel fine the next day.
If you suffer from bad hangovers, try it and share. I'm interested to hear what this does for anyone else.

Interesting. Unfortunately, I think caffeine is the only thing that keeps me alive. But I rarely drink enough to even get a buzz, much less have a hangover the next day.

IIMHO it's a dehydration issue. You cut out soda which dehydrates you more than it hydrates you, probably more so that alcohol. Now you are more a head of the curve when you throw a few back.
I'm not a doctor but there is a holiday inn express down the road from me.

Nope, because I've tried drinking a shit ton of water/gatorade/anything while drinking, with no positive benefits. It's caffeine, I'm positive.
my girlfriend swears its the sugar

I'm like Carl here, I need caffeine to function... But I rarely drink too... and when I do it's not to get wasted. [Beer]

i drink dr pepper all the time and when i'm drinking alcohol its grain vodka (stolichnaya) i never get more than a very slight headache that goes away from advil when i drink my vodka on the rocks ;)
Oh and to update- probably not very healthy- but 3 Aleive and 3 aspirin do the trick the next morning!

I have heard This statement before. My question is if you were in the desert and all you had to drink was Coke do you think you would die? Coffee, the same thing if I was in the desert and all I had was was coffee I think that would keep me alive longer than drinking nothing at all. It seems to be an idea that came from nutritionists who were suggesting we should drink more water which I agree with. But the concept that we're going to die of dehydration even though we're taking on plenty of fluids like Coke or coffee doesn't make any sense to me, let me know if I'm wrong. My answer to hangovers unless I drink a ridiculous amount is to drink a quart of water right before going to sleep.

I agree. If you drink try a Gatorade before bed, it helps.

A high yeast bread does wonders .. I worked at a club and we had a speciality bakery in the back .. I'd get a fresh loaf every night and I didn't believe it would work till I tried it .

Yeah but that's like asking a nymphomaniac to try out abstinence... [Coffee]
I can't remember where, but one article I read said that a bacon sandwich in the morning is a great medicine for a hangover. The logic? Bread, it provides yeast and soaks up a lot; the bacon helps with protein replacement and the grease is good for "filling" feeling, and the egg is another great source of protein.

Best hangover cure I ever tried was 2 Tylenol and a really hot pepper, that was in Mexico during my senior trip.
I cured hangovers too...I stopped drinking. ;)
Or stop stopping. No hangover.
I never got hangovers-just kept drinking.
It wasn't untill I stopped that I had the worst one in my life-28 days of it...[Coffee]
I recently tried a pure juice diet. 6 of my family members tried it, all adults. All of us that drank caffeine in any form had the worst headaches ever. I was one of them. I never get headaches. I am hoping I never run out of caffeine because I lasted 3 days like tha,t all day long headaches and had to give up the diet. Sucked! I don't need to lose weight either but wanted to win! :)
I am young, and dumb still too. I drink a shit ton of coffee every day. I would say at least 2 pots worth depending on outside weather I am working in. On the weekends, I don't drink near as much coffee, because I am not working in the elements, I find that if I do not drink coffee at all on the weekends, the headaches do come on like a bitch! I don't however think that it is a hangover cure. Dehydration is a bitch, I think this is the main cause for headaches, coupled with the fact that your poisioning the shit out of your body as it can only process so much alcohol at a given time headaches are inevitable

Going back many years to DUI enforcement training...
It seems to me we were taught that impurities in the alcoholic beverages, some of which were natural and some of which were added, were the main cause of the headaches. Chemical changes in the substance that occurred during the fermentation process also were a cause.
Those additives and impurities are also why people develop that distinct odor on their breath after drinking most alcoholic drinks. More difficult to detect that odor with more pure spirits like highly distilled vodka.
But that was over 20 years ago. My memory may not be correct.

Avoid sugars, dark liqours, and caffeine. It's dehydration, believe me. Caffeine is a dyuretic, dehydrates you. Years of field work and a ton of hangovers. Glass of water before you start drinking, one before bed, one when you wake up. No sugar, no caffiene on the day you drink.
I drink a lot of coffee because it is free at work. Fortunately, I don't care if it is caffeinated or not.
Makes sense. I don't consume much caffeine other than a soda every once in a while and I don't have much of a problem with hangovers. Usually if I get one it's gone by mid-day.
Although now that I think about it, last time I had jager and red bull the following morning was pretty miserable...ya know, you might be on to something!
