Mods, I ask that this doesn't get moved to the L&P section, since GD gets much more traffic. We NEED people to see this.
This is our last chance to have our voices heard on the first 4 gun bills. I know that there isn't much time before Monday, but I urge everyone to try and get out of work, so that they can attend the hearings. I am going to do this myself, and with luck, have my voice heard. Here is the info I received from Sen. Ted Harvey:
ALL of the gun bills in the Senate will be heard in TWO committees on MONDAY, March 4 at 1:30.
Judiciary Committee (Old Supreme Court Chambers, second floor of the Capitol)
SB 195--CCW training
SB 196--Assault Weapons ban
HB 1224--Limiting the size of magazines
SB ?--Prohibition of gun possession while under a restraining order
State Affairs Committee (Senate Committee RM 356, third floor of the Capitol)
HB 1226 Prohibiting Concealed Carry on college campus.
HB 1228 Background fees (Poll Tax)
HB 1229 Universal Background Checks
Each witness in each committee will be given a number indicating the order in which they will testify (think Deli Counter numbered tickets). Each witness will be given THREE (3) minutes TOTAL to speak on any/all of the bills being heard before the that specific committee. This will hopefully allow all interested citizens the ability to testify before both committees with the knowledge that they will not lose their place in line in either of the two committees.
Please have your comments well prepared and practiced to ensure that they are within the allowed three minute time period.
If you are unable to attend on Monday afternoon please feel free to call or email any of the members of the two committee and let them know your position on the bills.

Personally, I feel that HB 13-1224 is the most important bill to be fought, but we need our voices heard on all of them.

Is anyone else planning on attending??
SB 195--CCW training...Only prohibits On-Line training. Nothing to see here.
SB 196--Assault Weapons Liability act...These types of laws are designed only to impair law abiding citizens.
I plan on going after my morning deposition...hope it is short.

If we don't get better organized, the dems aren't going to have a problem walking over us. We've got to get better organized, and make damned sure that our voices are heard.
If I could afford to rent a billboard sign, I'd put something up on it as well.

I was just going to say, 196 is not a ban, it's a ridiculous liability act... Does this pretty much make CO Castle Doctrine null and void?

There is a provision for home defense in the bill. Problem with the bill is that it is completely unconsititutional (Yeah, I know what they think about the constitution). The issue of liability is for the "trier of fact" within the court system. Bills attempting to place liability onto persons by law have in large part failed. Mandatory sentencing, penalties, etc. can be legislated provided the "trier of fact" finds liability. Another bill that really stands no chance and if passed will cost Colorado jobs, businesses and money to fight it. Complete waste of paper and time at this point, but the utter ignorance of the law and the constitution as well as the total lack of leadership by the Dems is disgusting.
I'm just waiting for this global economic collapse to occur like they've been predicting for so long. Will make all of this moot.
And what about this Gov't shutdown everybody's been teasing (sorry... threatening?) us with? I'm getting impatient.

Fishing is more important than protecting your constitutional rights?
You got a priority issue.......

Sanity issue...
I sat through a 3 hour FTO meeting at work Wednesday. I have another meeting tomorrow with a mortgage company. Saturday I have a 1-2 hour phone interview.
You'd wanna get away too.

I'm sorry I don't share the same enthusiasm you do. At this point I just want the whole thing to be over with.
I understand why you have the feelings you do. I just don't have the same connection. I've grown tired of it all.
Plus, I really don't think I have anything to add to the whole thing.

Wow man. Are you saying that you've given up on trying to retain your 2A rights? I was kidding about the "selfish" post earlier, but man, come on. I'm not tired - I'm PISSED. We have another election cycle soon and that's the beauty of our system. If shit goes through today, we can change it then...if we have the resolve to do it. Giving up is just...pussy, French type stuff.

Does that mean it is hairy too?
Ewwwww.
I am reasonably certain they are going to pass these laws. I am still going to show up. Because if I dont, they for sure WILL pass the laws. But if enough of us think that "Well, maybe I can make a difference" and show up they still might not pass them. It isn't over till the votes are counted, till then I fight.

What I meant by the "add to it" thing is, I don't think I can do much more than has already been done. I'm not going to go up and speak. I'm not going to hold signs. That's not who I am as a person...
The being tired of it... Blame this forum for that. I'm so sick of the doom and gloom that I just don't want to think about it anymore.

Odds on, I am not going to speak either. But I am going to go to stand shoulder to shoulder with the guys who are going to speak.

I HATE crowds. Individual people piss me off, en-mass they make me cranky big time. But it absolutely will pass if you dont show up. It might not pass if you do.

This is exactly how I feel. I live in the middle of fucking nowhere on purpose - to be AWAY FROM PEOPLE. But I blow $20 in gas and drive to Denver every few weeks to "show up". To "be there". To "make some difference...maybe".
Not showing up can only HELP THE OPPOSITION. Christ all mighty, standing around for an hour or so at the Capitol Bldg is a gigantic hassle? I met an older forum member (sorry man) there who lives in the hills who told me he hadn't been to a gathering that large in 20 years....HE KNEW IT WAS THAT IMPORTANT, so he went down. Man, the apathy among our youth...sad.
JM - you know I don't have a beef with you man. But Jeez, stand up bro! Doing nothing ensures that the laws get passed. Guaranteed.
I wish I could go guys, but I have to work. Something about having to feed a family and pay the mortgage. If I could go I would.
Screw it... Maybe I will take a vacation day....Is anybody from NoCo region going?

Ever since a crowd in Somalia didn't like me, I fucking hate crowds. But these aren't strangers, these are going to be people like us, fighting for our rights. Sorry, but I've worked all week, will be working all weekend, and the rest of the week. I'm still going to be using my one day off to fight for our rights instead of going fishing or even shooting.
My brother might be coming from Ft. Collins. If he's going I'll send you a PM tomorrow (Friday).
Cool thanks. I've got to OK with the boss so we shall see.
Not a speaker but I'll be there supporting those who do.
I'm sorry I don't share the same enthusiasm you do. At this point I just want the whole thing to be over with.
If any of these bans pass you had better not mumble one breath of displeasure with them.
People that are not willing to do something are the reason these bills have a chance.

Apathy is no excuse.
As far as the board being the source of "gloom and doom":
To qoute Hans Hunt of Wyoming: "Then by all means, leave".
Your tired?
How many of our members here have spent hours on the phone, writing letters, composing e mails, attending town halls, hearings, rallies, their own cash to RMGO, NRA etc?
Many have taken time off from work, missed events and time with family, fishing, skiing and I even have a customer who cancelled his vacation to stay and fight for our Rights.
We are facing the reality of what we are against and instead of sitting on our tired asses we are doing what we can.
Your tired?
Thank God the men of Concord, Shiloh, the Ardennes, Tarawa, Normandy, Chosin Reservoir, Khe Sanh, Mogadishu, Fallujah and Kandahar weren't "too tired"......

I'm going and I'll be spending this weekend working on what I want to say to the committee. We shouldn't be hassling each other here. I get that we should encourage each other to make a showing, but instead of writing in to say, "Thanks for going, I can't make it, but I wish you the best," (or writing to tell someone the outcome of that course of action) write in and offer up some suggestions to the folks who are going. You could spark one us who will attend to take a number and go up and convince 1 more representative to vote a bill down, or make a powerful improvement in the testimony of someone who was already going to be speaking.
If I can go Monday I plan on bringing up the recent decision to spend money to create jobs with a company from new York yet they are spending money to get rid of jobs and tax revenue with 1224, then list every single one of them by name and ask them why they should keep their jobs when they are going to willfully get rid of or impact thousands with a bill that they know will have no effect on safety.
