Probably, but I hope not and it's the very least any of us can do. I am sending this letter to the applicable state senators as soon as I get the names formated. Posting if for no other reason than to give some ideas or prompt to action. Plagarize at will if you like, tear it up it if you feel the need, but do your part and engage your elected officials....

Dear Senator,

I have spent the last 19+ years of my life defending the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, as a member of the United States Air Force. The oath I took to uphold the same is not taken lightly, nor is it amendable, corruptible or subject to the whims of government. I had hopes of retiring in the Fort Collins area, starting a business and living out my days with my family enjoying the western values, natural beauty and rugged individualism that make Colorado so appealing. However, should proposed legislation that will have the de facto effect of creating criminals out of otherwise law-abiding citizens pass, Colorado will not be my family’s home.

I see copious amounts of legislation targeting inanimate objects and those who would otherwise obey the rule of law. The question no one appears to be asking is two-fold:

1. Should they be passed, do you believe these new proposals will be followed and obeyed by the enemies of society (the criminal element)?

2a. If the answer to #1 is “no,” and we already know that that same element does not obey existing laws, why do you think it important to pass even more laws that criminals will not obey, thereby harming only those who have done no wrong?

2b. If the answer to #1 is “yes,” then your naiveté makes it apparent that you have no business as an elected official and you should immediately resign your post.

You villianize those responsible for the carnage at Columbine, in Aurora and in Newton and I stand with you in casting them down as the essence of evil. But should these proposed laws pass, you will instantly place otherwise law-abiding citizens in exactly the same category, guilty by association, as these evil-doers despite our exemplary service, spotless past and steadfast commitment to uphold the Constitution of the United States or otherwise live peacefully under its protections.

But consider this: By voting in favor of these senseless, feel-good, misguided proposals, you, yourself, will be cast as the equal of those aforementioned societal enemies, for you will have removed the very means for the good of society to defend themselves against those enemies who WILL NOT OBEY YOUR LAWS under any circumstances. You will be held responsible for increases in crime, the untold millions (billions?) of dollars required to maintain such draconian measures and the ire of those voters left utterly defenseless against armed bandits. All you will be able to say is that you “did something,” that “something” being the dismemberment of the 2nd Amendment under the auspices of an alternative utopian reality.

I refer you to Article VI of the Constitution of the United States, which states; “The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution…”

You, like me, took an oath. I urge you to read it, then read it again. It states, in part and in the correct order, “I, do solemnly swear by the ever-living God, that I will support the Constitution of the United States and of the State of Colorado…”

Your “NO” vote on any and all proposals that are prejudicial to the Constitution as required by your oath is appreciated and expected.

Good letter.

Too bad nobody will read it. And if by by some miracle they do, they will not take heed.

I read your letter. Solid common sense with a patriotism slant. Nice job.

They won't. You will get back a canned response. I sent an email to all Democratic senators. No real need to send to Republican. Got one response from Irene Aguilar and a bounced email from one dumbass that can't even keep a valid email address.
