Basically 1:7 is a faster twist rate, capable of stabilizing longer bullets, i.e. 69,75,77 grains. With that said, I've shot 75 grain Hornady bthp out of a 1:9 with no issues. Personally I prefer 1:7 as I never shoot anything lighter than 55 grain, but do like the heavier stuff when I can get my hands on it. Plus most of the better quality AR's come with 1:7 barrels.

And ChunkyMonkey beat me, likely with a much better answer lol.

I prefer either 1/7 or 1/8. I only use either of them, too.

I have found the 1/8 to be the best of both words. It stabilizes 55gr with no problem, and is an absolute tack driver with 69gr.

1. 1-8
2. 1-7
3. 1-9
In that order, but honestly its like picking out a car, get what you WANT for your individual set of NEEDS.

I personally prefer the 1-7.
