So I had a run in with a potential customers dog today. This all happened in Parker where I'm installing some retaining walls for my buddy who owns a pool company. Meet him at the first job all goes well and he says that while I'm in Parker we should head down to another job that's a few weeks out. He rides with me and my dog to the next job. On the way to the job he tells me that the home owner has a dog that bit him not once, but twice the last time he was there. The home owner ran his dog off, and the dog circles the house and tries to get him again. WOW!! Ok I tell my buddy he better have his dog locked up unless he wants to meet Mr. Super Redhawk. This was a joke not thinking anything would actually take place. I mean if I were in his shoes I wouldn't want my dog trying to eat the pool guy once more. Especially in a day where everyone sues and he obviously has so much to lose. We get there and I put my dog in the cab of the truck and no sign of this other dog around. We ring the door bell and as soon as the home owner opens the door the dog runs out. Buddy tells me to watch out...what that means I was supposed to do I have no clue. The dog didn't bit either one of us, but smelled us both over really good. Dog acted very strange in a way that I wasn't going to offer my hand for a sniff. Home owner just stands there and then says he wants to see how his dog is going to "REACT". I at once stated that he wouldn't like how I'd "REACT". I said this in the most pissed off tone I could sound off with. What the hell, this guy wants to wait and see if his dog bites "AGAIN"?? At that he puts the dog inside and we're off to look in the back yard where the pool goes. After going over details of the job and shooting the breeze I could tell this guys a little strange. Back to the front of his house and my buddy says hey the dogs out again! I think he was nervous LOL. At this point I go to my truck and open the door. My dogs never bitten anything, but looks intimidating being half Doberman half Rott. Plus my dog has about a good 30 pounds over this guys dog. I figured my dog would hopefully provide some protection. Home owner takes one look at my dog and back in the house his dog goes right away. It's ok if I get bit, but not his dog??
Anyways I think I'm going to tell my buddy he's going to have to get another mason for this job. I think if I were working on the job and that dog gave me trouble I'd take a shovel to it. It's obvious this guy doesn't know how to deal with a dog that bites.
Sorry for the long winded story, but I'm still ticked off about this. I think more so than the guy who got bit. He went back for seconds knowingly after all LOL

Any animal that bites people like that should be put down...and anyone that chooses to keep an animal like that is a fool and should be punished severely if it harms anyone.

Sucka

Sounds like an irresponsible dog owner to me. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he encourages that type of behavior from his dog.

It's a shame, but good dogs happen to bad people. I would have done the same thing as you. Smart move not taking the job, i don't think that would work out for anyone involved, especially the dog!

Oh, and paragraphs are your friend :D

I'm in the real estate biz (no, I'm not an agent) and I get charged by dogs all the time. I've only been bitten once (Chi-hua-hua) but I maced that lil farker but good and he left me alone the rest of the job.

Most of the time, not acting scared will work, sometimes, you need a progressive force response.

I have two english bulldogs and I cant imagine them trying to bite someone. Why would you want a dog like that. Now if someone knocks on our door they snarl and growl but I want them to do that. Once we let them in they are wiggling all over trying to get a pat on the head. Some people.

This is my .02 if somebody wants to own a vicious dog fine with me but you best damn control it so it does not attack an innocent person. The problem I see is most asshats that own pitbulls and the like are iresponsible and do not control their dog like the guy mentioned by the OP.

I personally will never own an agressive dog I do not wish to deal with that BS. The year before last me and the neighbor behind me tore down the fence and cut down some trees that was pushing the fence over. We never got around to getting a new fence up untill last summer. He has two children one was a 4 year old boy and the other was a 2 month old girl at that time.

I would have went through hell for a year straight if I had a vicious dog. I would have had to baby sit the thing anytime it was outside. Not to mention my next door neighbor runs daycare out of her home. Instead I just let my dog out and the neighbors 4 year old boy had a new freind to play with.

The only problem I had was my dog is a damn theif she kept stealing his toys and bringing them home leaving them on my deck. Every couple of days I had to return toys.[Abused]

Just take a rolled up newspaper to the owner and repeat "BAD OWNER!" every time the dog does something stupid. About the third time the owner should get it.

I have dogs and if they were stalking a guest, I would put them in the house/garage/car and leave them. How hard is it?
