I would love to own a AR-15 but know nothing about them. I don't want to get taken advantage of with all the buying frenzy so any pointers would be appreciated.

I live E of Parker Colorado on 3 acres. Me and my wife have 5 boys ages 21 to 12. I work as a Software architect. I am very concerned about the current state of the Country.
