Anyone catch "The Bible" on the History Channel on Sunday? I DVR'd it and just watched it myself. (repost? Hope not) Oh, I'm no "thumper", BTW.

I really liked this. It's a 10 hour "docu-drama". Looks like 2 hrs. every Sunday until Easter (not an accident). The Bible (http://www.history.com/shows/the-bible)

The cool thing for me was that it was seriously violent, like it really was back then. Folks didn't f*ck around back then - no ACLU and all of that shit. :)

The only negative was the giant skips in time. But hey, you only got 10 hours, minus commercials, to present the entire history of the world......I'll give them a little slack. :)

I aint got time to watch "The Bible" on TV.

I am too busy watching Hell unfold in my native state.

Obviously, violence should just be banned. I mean, why hasn't anyone proposed this before! [gayafro]

I saw an ad for that show last night, called a buddy who's kind of into that stuff to tell him about it.

Don't know if he watched it or not, but now that you seem to be professing a liking for it, I'll pass that on as well.

This is what DVRs are for. Between battles with the undead and those "representatives" scrambling to take away our 2A right, it's good to relax and watch a little TV before crashing for the night

I think a glass of 40 Creek will suffice.

I watched it a bit today. And you're right, it does go too fast. But like you said, ten hours really isn't enough time to cover all that happened in the Bible.

I am really enjoying this. It is like a Cliff Notes version of the Bible, could be 10 times longer.

I watched it on Sunday and I enjoyed it even though with the time lapses I feel like it glosses over a few things. The Asian, dual sword wielding angel in Sodom was a bit odd to me though.

Mark Barnet and Romy Downy are both deeply spiritual people and really tried to tell a great story the entire family would be able to watch. History unfortunately was the only network that would air it.

Word is 13 million watched on Sunday so I'm sure there are a few network execs kicking themselves about now.

I'm sure you can find some online TV watching site or if you know how to Bit Torrent you can get it that way...

I watched it off my DVR last night, the production value was pretty good for a history channel mini-series. I concur with what everyone is saying, it does kind of fast forward, but yeah, 10 hours... I had kind of mixed feelings with the way that "God" and his angels showed up for Abraham, but other than that I enjoyed the first part... especially when Lot was saved from Sodom.

I'm gonna wait until it's all out on DVD and then pirate it. Yes, pirate The Bible. Grin.

On another note... if this is a History Channel vision of it, does that mean that the Creation weaves in some ancient aliens in a far-reaching conspiracy? Just sayin...

Two questions:
why nobody really looks middle eastern and why the hell most historical movies have their actors speak with a british accent?
Does not help with credibility...

why nobody really looks middle eastern

Historical accuracy aside, "middle eastern' hasn't be a redeeming attribute for the last decade or so.

Technically speaking, most of the characters from the early parts of the bible are Israelites- no one is quite sure exactly how they looked back then, but probably somewhat close to Israelis today look. And the accent, well they'd all be speaking Aramaic, and since no one speaks that language it'd sound like gibberish without subtitles and we'd all be lost! [LOL]

They're airing it tonight on History, plus an encore presentation Sunday at 3PM MST before they air the new episode at 5PM... Just FYI.

It was more just the way it was presented on the show. My catechism classes showed the angels with one sword each.

All joking aside, I really thought this series was OUTSTANDING. I'll be buying the DVDs and look forward to the next series.

OK, joking again...it was great to see Obama again in several scenes of the final episode. [LOL]

My family and I are really enjoying The Bible. It is giving us pause to get into more Bible reading to answer questions we come up with during the show. Anything to get us into the Word is good.

This. I'm not really religious but I enjoyed the series. Mostly because it wasn't meant as a conversion tool, it was just a series to show the stories contained in the book, and did it well for the time allotted.

My wife and I watched it and we liked it. Overall a good effort. I like pretty much all of the big religious films that came from Hollywood; Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments The Bible In The Beginning, The Greatest Story Ever Told, King of Kings, The Robe, The Last Temptation of Christ, The Passion of The Christ. They all have something to offer.

Great series but was a little disappointed in last night. I realize the bulk of the episode needed to be about Christ but then they rammed the rest of the New Testament into the last 15 minutes and nothing from Revelation, which could have been another 2 hours itself.

Overlall solid series, but as is usually the case, the book was better.

I believe that was ultimately the intent of the film. To get folks back in to the Bible and see what God's word really says and to start dialogs like this one or ones with your neighbors, friends...etc. Like many movies, the creators took artistic license but the redemptive message of why Christ came remains. Read Revelation to see how the story really ends.

You guys both said it better than I could have. And maybe Part II will have more detail and include Revelation. Frankly, I think the producers of this were pleasantly surprised at how well the series was received. I hope they don't f-it up.
