In light of the comment she made, I felt the need to write this email to her. I doubt I will get a reponse, but if I do I will surely post here. Tried to be logical (like that would work [facepalm] and not threatening, but truthful...

Ms. Hudak,
I have a question for you that I would like to get a reply to. I am starting a new business here in Colorado, NE of Denver. It will never be a big business, but I hope that it will eventually support my family, and will likely produce 1 to 2 more jobs in the state supporting what I am doing. I know that starting a business in this economy is not the easiest thing, and odds say I won't succeed. Do you really think I should give up and not try?

Your asinine comment in the committee meeting burns me up. You actually told a rape victim that once it started, she should have given up and let it happen. As a human being, let alone a woman, I can not believe you would tell her that statistics say that once a rape starts, it will finish, so she should have just went along with it I guess... We as a nation have lost our way, too many people look to others to take care of them, and too many of our so called representatives in government want to make it impossible for people to take care of themself. You say the odds are having a gun won't stop a rape. I say odds are that any particular gun, AR platform, high capacity magazine or not, will NEVER be used in a crime. Using your statistical logic, these gun control laws aren't needed, so why bother. Maybe because it's not guns you are concerned with. It is control.

You should be ashamed, and deserve the criticism you brought on yourself. I hope you enjoy your retirement from government after the next election cycle, because I am sure there are more than just gun rights groups that will be campaining against you.

And yes, I would be interested in hearing your answer to my first question. Do you think that you should just go with what statistics say will happen, or should we actually fight to try to obtain the outcome we desire? You can email me back, call, or set up an appointment and I would be glad to have an honest discussion.

Thank you for calling as it is. Listening to Michael Brown just a few ago he was talking about this and Senator Levis comment that all these laws won't have any impact on crime. Then why the fing are they passing them?????/??? It's interesting when you look up all these clowns BIOS and see where they come from and where they were educated at. No wonder we are in trouble. Hardly anyone with true roots in State Government. Here is hoping that 2014 we will send them all packing.

Hell, I'm from out of state but I came to love this place because of the maximum degree of freedom offered compared to other states. I've been tempted to run for office, but I don't think I really want that responsibility.

"The Colorado Coalition Against Gun Violence says that for every one woman who used a handgun to kill someone in self-defense, 83 were murdered by them," Hudak said.
"I feel so horrible for what some of these people have endured," Hudak said. " I am actually really looking out for their best interest."

Do these people actually believe the garbage coming out of their mouths?

Hudak is either incredibly ignorant or just a flat out liar. She is implying that those 83 women in that statistic are murdered with their own gun. That is not what the statistic is stating. The statistic isn't even remotely relevant to her argument. The statistic is just stating that in 1998, for every 1 woman that killed an attacker with a gun, 83 women were murdered by guns in general.

While simultaneously painting conservatives as hating women. Taking away a woman's ability to defend her life seems a lot worse than anything conservatives try...

Jeezuz Kyle, don't you know only Republicans wage a "War on Women"?

To the OP, your letter is a good start but I would suggest keeping things like "asinine" etc out of it. The minute you interject accusatory language like that they shut down. You are much better using things such as "wholly inappropriate" and the like. Also be very specific, name the date and the hearing subject, the individuals name (Amanda Collins) etc.

Politicians use their tongues like a $20.00 whore.
We need to use our fingers like a $1000.00 proctologist.

" I am actually really looking out for their best interest."

Here is the truest statement made by Senator Hudak. In her world, she and the government need to look out for our best interest. If she doesn't, who will? [facepalm]

The statistic itself is possibly true. After all, far more criminals carry guns than women intent on personal protection. However, even if the statistic is 100% true, it doesn't take into account the number of violent attacks stopped by a woman with a gun that didn't result in the death of the perpetrator, and the context in which Hudak presented the statistic shows that she wants to lead us to believe that for every one woman who successfully defends herself with a gun, 83 are killed when the perpetrator disarms them and uses their own gun against them.

In essence, Hudak put an orange on display and demanded that everyone in attendance believe that it was actually an apple.
