Well it says POLICE/RESCUE on the side so I think they are just intending to help us.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: We need bigger guns.
...In the name of fairness, of course. [facepalm]

First they buy up all the bullets, then outlaw the magazines, devalue the dollar...
A link I saw on another gun forum. According to this link, they are for the Marines. I certainly can't verify either way.

If the majority of the population don't see the gov gearing for a civil war, they are just blind. I have operated these vehicles. If a revolution does break out, gonna be hard taking these things out. They can withstand a LOT of stuff.

I never had a chance to see one of these up front when I was dont range, off hand do you know what they were typically in the shop for maintenance for? I know our Up armored HUMVEE's would always pop ball joints and control arms.

So... Actually looking at the contract (http://www.defense.gov/contracts/contract.aspx?contractid=4701) award announcement, which which is more than a year old, these are being retro fitted for the USMC... I can't find anything official to support this "DHS buying thousands of MRAPs" nonsense. If someone has a source that's not infowars please post it.

We beat the crap out of ours daily and they took it like a champ. I would say the biggest weakness they have is offroad capability. They were not the best off the hardened surface. The MATV's on the other hand were the best all around vehicle I have ever dealt with. We used both in Afghanistant in 2010-2011.
I've never used one., but every time I'm behind one I can't figure out the hell they don't tip over constantly. The things look super top heavy.

Wasn't this mostly 9mm and .40? They're going to war with handguns?
Buy up armored vehicles.....
As pointed out by Mick-boy, these are for the USMC.
Nope, don't see too much out of line here.

So.. every picture I've seen of them is just photoshopped to show DHS markings?

Much like tanks, they don't do very well in big holes, but it is still kinda scary because those aren't all that useful for non-lethal riot control, and really they would only really serve a purpose on the border and that is still a sieve.

Any armored vehicle is susceptible to damage or destruction when a Molotov cocktail is deployed above the engine compartment vents.
snopes says that dhs is getting bring back mraps from the marines
Mixed in that 2 billion rounds is at least 200 million rounds of .223 www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity&mode=form&id=c432be5826bf182b180ab4c2392aa978&tab=core&_cview=1 (http://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity&mode=form&id=c432be5826bf182b180ab4c2392aa978&tab=core&_cview=1)
I believe there is more 223 being bought just don't have the time to search for the pdf files.
What was interesting is the figure that the Iraq war on average consumes about 5.5 million rounds a month. Thats about 24 years worth of the Iraq war. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/02/17/Feds-Buy-2-Billion-Rounds-Of-Ammunition

That may work for light armor vehicles but I highly doubt that would work for an Abrams.

but large holes work very well, Germans, Polish, Afghans have made pretty good examples of this ...not against an Abrams, but a tank is a tank

The best way to stop armor is to go after their supply lines IMHO.

I had that same thought on my way to work this morning. I'm done trying to find any common sense in what's happening to the US.

I'm thinking that many on this board are familiar with the weaknesses of the MRAP.

Yes Sir, forgot about those bastards. In the sandbox they were adding a secondary source to it like diesel or gasoline to achive a catastrophic kill after the armor was penetrated. Nasty, nasty was to go.

From the video I saw of the operator discussing the vehicle; there is only one door on the thing. Just jam a large steel pipe between the door and the ladder... Case closed.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
This smacks of urban legend until we can confirm the information from a reputable source.
Speaking of which... here's a story (http://littlegreenfootballs.com/page/294634_Factchecking-_Obama_DHS_Purcha) that seems to offer some decent evidence in direct conflict with this story.

Boy that would ruin their day, then paint bomb the windows so they can drive around in circles for a week or so.

The standard MRAP has two regular doors (driver and passenger) then a drop down hatch on the rear, plus a gunner hatch on top.

IIRC, it also has another hatch to the rear of the gunner. Blocking a door would be useless.

Oh crap, I forgot about that "escape" hatch... But we had to use it once in a drill- it isn't very big, and it sucks!
