...but I thought as tough as they are on toddlers, elderly, there is no way we could've brought a nail clipper into the plane let alone an IED.
Please keep this thread clean.

well for all of the equipment and protocols looks to me these folks need to get some k-9 units.
I am curious if the fake item was just size shape appropriate or if it had any components that should have been detected like nitrates etc.
Ill keep it clean and just say they should all be fired. At a minimum half of them

It wasnt too long ago that some woman walked through security with her .38 in her handbag. I myself went through security with a single edge razor blade in my backpack. It was tossed in with a bunch of decals for the race cars and never pulled out of the pack before I headed out to the airport. Got back to Denver and it just fell out when I unpacked. Awesome security job.

So if TSA goes away, does that mean no more hand jobs at the airport in front of 100's of strangers?
Would you replace TSA? With what? What kind of security would you design for commercial aviation that would be 100% effective? 90% effective? 80% effective? Pretty good, most of the time?
Please spare me with the Israeli methodology as it does not and can not be translated from their microscopic commercial aviation operation to domestic aviation in the USA.
The best government is less government.

Frangible ammo and concealed carry. Ccw = no security check.
All passengers must be strip searched before getting on any flight, if it only saves one life it will be worth it....

TSA = Too Stupid for Arby's
The TSA doesn't exist for our protection, the TSA exists to get the sheeple used to government intrusion and illegal searches.

Private security just like MCO, MCI. I think SAC and ATL are also on the way to this.

They said in the article if just the top airports switched it would save tax payers $1 billion over 5 years. Small potatoes in the world of multi trillion dollar deficits but anything helps.
Nothing is 100% effective, not even condoms.
The reality is that anyone can be bought, be it a government screener or a private screener. We see on a pretty regular basis stories of people who got guns or knives or other things through security. How many more people didn't say a thing and continued on with their life. How many people including children have been needlessly patted down or essentially groped for no good.
As bad as it is to say, we need to profile. That is the bottom line. There are lists that the multiple three letter agencies have that would give great insight as to who to check, who is connected with them, where they might fly out of etc. It would also put the focus on the higher threats, not spread it so thin the underwear and shoe bombers have a less risk of getting caught.
Private companies, IE the airlines are getting horrendously bad reputations thanks to security. The passengers show up pre-pissed off half the time, families are scrutinized, peoples personal privacy is severely invaded.
Now private security won't change all of this. There will still be rules and procedures to follow, but the tax payers will save major dollars, less government will be in our lives, private companies will be able to prosper and the correct amount of employees needed to complete the job will be there, not twice as many with half of them sitting around doing nothing or holding hands through the airport or watching the sporting events on the airport paid for TV.
Would you replace TSA? With what? What kind of security would you design for commercial aviation that would be 100% effective? 90% effective? 80% effective? Pretty good, most of the time?
No. Education for passengers that NOTHING in life is 100% safe and that flying is an inherently dangerous activity and that THEY are responsible for their own safety. Special permits for civilians to carry on planes.
Private security just like MCO, MCI. I think SAC and ATL are also on the way to this.
Please for the love of god don't bring back Wackenhut and all the different security companies at every different airport. The ONLY thing good that TSA has done is at least 90% of the screeners actually speak English now.

This is why I became a private pilot. If it's within 700nm or so, I'd rather fly on a beat up old Cessna any day...
