I know a lot of us that want to not associate ourselves as city people.... even though we might be.

Here is a check list to see where you fall.
- Do you open a gate or cross a cattle guard to get onto your property?
- Is your driveway measures in 10's or 100's or 1000's of yards... Miles?
- Are you on city water/sewer?
- Does your power go out every time there is any type of storm?
- Do snow drifts caused by wind exceed your car/house height?
- If you talk or yell can your neighbor hear you.... without a phone?
- If you shoot in your yard does anyone call the local law enforcement?
- Do you have to drive more than 15 miles/minutes to go get gas/food/groceries?

Lastly, Do you leave your keys in your vehicles and your house is always unlocked?

I know that personally what bothers me most is when I have to go to town and I remember to lock my truck, but forget to actually take my keys out of the ignition!

Here is a check list to see where you fall.
- Do you open a gate or cross a cattle guard to get onto your property? Gate...but it's never closed.
- Is your driveway measures in 10's or 100's or 1000's of yards... Miles? .4 mile
- Are you on city water/sewer? Septic and well
- Does your power go out every time there is any type of storm? Not so much these days
- Do snow drifts caused by wind exceed your car/house height? Occasionally
- If you talk or yell can your neighbor hear you.... without a phone? Maybe...if they're outside
- If you shoot in your yard does anyone call the local law enforcement? They did once...but didn't again after they saw the deputies shooting with me - including some select fire stuff.
- Do you have to drive more than 15 miles/minutes to go get gas/food/groceries? 20 mins

Lastly, Do you leave your keys in your vehicles and your house is always unlocked? Leave the keys in the truck a lot...rarely lock the house - someone is almost always home.

I think I fall in between...I'm right on the edge of town; I don't cross a cattle guard or gate but I go over my bridge for the irrigation canal; we're on city water but have a septic system; my driveway is over 100 yards long; the only way I can yell loud enough for the only neighbor I have to hear me is if I walk up to the end of the driveway; I can walk out my sliding glass door and shoot skeet over my alfalfa field and nobody cares (unless the wife is watching TV!); but I can drive 1.5 minutes and be at the gas station, the hardware store (been in the same place and owned by the same folks since the 30's) the little grocery store, the bowling alley, the feed store, the florist, the little old pharmacy that still has a no-kidding real soda fountain, the county courthouse, the post office, or town hall. Another couple of minutes I can make it to the auto parts store, the steel yard, or the car wash. We only have 4 restaurants, if you include DariLand. Of course, town is around 900 people, and that's about half the population of the whole county.

Lots of folks around here don't lock their doors, never mind their cars. The only crime is from bored teenagers, and they always figure out who did it.

I love it.

No, only because have not put up gate yet.
Driveway/private road about 3/8 mile.
County water and septic.
Pretty lucky, power rarely goes out unless some moron knocks down pole or tornado knocks down a bunch of poles.
Snow drifts regularly bury cars/trucks, wind blows alot out here.
If all parties are outside and all is quiet, if scream bloody murder you might get one neighbors attention.
Everybody shoots in their yard and nobody cares, unless stuck doing chores and can't participate.
Nearest towns, 13 miles one way, 30 miles the other.

No keys in cars and house regularly locked. Had a neighbor come by one day concerned about strange car in driveway. Made the mistake of coming in house(unlocked), forgot that dog might be home(dog usually goes everywhere with us). Took him 20 mins to get out and got bit twice. Was smart enough to not hurt the dog. Wife demands doors locked now.

I grew up in the country and I miss it, but we had some scumbags that lived down the road a ways, and my mother's family were special. We almost always had everything locked up. One of the benefits of going home, I can escape suburbia. I like the convenience sometimes, but I miss being able to step out my back door and shoot the f'ing coyotes.

My job required me to move into city limits. Now they have changed the rules, so I am looking to move back into the country. Growing up we had no electricity and no running water until I was 16. The nearest neighbor was a mile away across country, 2.5 miles by road.

I think we grew up in the city. Ah the glory days of William Donald Schaefer.

It just isn't living unless there is a neighborhood bar on every corner, parallel parking is the only way you know, and you take the bus because you don't want lose the really good parking spot in front of your house [LOL]

I grew up the farm in KS. and can't imagine living in a city. We're on septc and well water. Driveway is long enough that I'm thankful for my neighbor and his skidsteer for snow plowing. I can shoot archery in my back yard, but more than about one gun shot will get someones attention. Only got 1 mile of gravel before it turns to oil, which is nice. Used to be 4 miles of the worst, roughest, least maintained road in Colo., now it's only 1 mile of the worst, roughest, least maintained road. Only about 15 minute drive into town. Plenty of snow drifts, again very thankful for the neighbor and his skidsteer.
The wife and I are looking at moving even further "out"..

Here is a check list to see where you fall.
- Do you open a gate or cross a cattle guard to get onto your property? No just a couple miles of dirt road
- Is your driveway measures in 10's or 100's or 1000's of yards... Miles? My driveway splits in three directions to a couple of different buildings; it has to be plowed. The damn county road goes through my property so it is pretty close to my house.
- Are you on city water/sewer? No, septic
- Does your power go out every time there is any type of storm? Depends on if a tree goes down
- Do snow drifts caused by wind exceed your car/house height? Our cars can be buried without drifts, 4ft storms are common.
- If you talk or yell can your neighbor hear you.... without a phone? Probably not
- If you shoot in your yard does anyone call the local law enforcement? No, but it sure pisses of the dogs in the area.
- Do you have to drive more than 15 miles/minutes to go get gas/food/groceries? About 15-20 minutes

Lastly, Do you leave your keys in your vehicles and your house is always unlocked? No and No

I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One more category: Does the drive scare the hell out of visitors?

I keep getting yelled at by every city person that visits me. Why is there no guard rail on the road up to your house? My answer, why do you need a guard rail; just stay away from the ledge.

I know a lot of us that want to not associate ourselves as city people.... even though we might be.

Here is a check list to see where you fall.
- Do you open a gate or cross a cattle guard to get onto your property? two gates
- Is your driveway measures in 10's or 100's or 1000's of yards... Miles? 1/4 mile after 2 miles of dirt road
- Are you on city water/sewer? septic and well
- Does your power go out every time there is any type of storm? yes
- Do snow drifts caused by wind exceed your car/house height? it used to when we had a manufactured house, so we bought a taller house.
- If you talk or yell can your neighbor hear you.... without a phone? no we couldnt talk to our neighbors without a phone
- If you shoot in your yard does anyone call the local law enforcement? i allways shoot in my "yard" I have a range. Whats Law Enforcement?
- Do you have to drive more than 15 miles/minutes to go get gas/food/groceries? Grocery store is about 26 miles away. 18.5 miles to get gas.

Lastly, Do you leave your keys in your vehicles and your house is always unlocked? no, and I have a locked gate. I dont trust anyone. I even take the key out of my tractor.

I know that personally what bothers me most is when I have to go to town and I remember to lock my truck, but forget to actually take my keys out of the ignition!

And we hate living this close in. We will move when we can to a much bigger place(land size), hopefully much further out.

I would love to finally get out of the suburbs and into the mountains with lots of acreage...basically a place where I can step out back and plink away in my own backyard (watching Hunter S. Thompson documentaries got me excited on that fantasy). Just need to figure out how to maintain a suitable income while far out from typical centers of employment.

Almost a mimeograph of Bailey Guns for us; the driveway's short but the road here can be death to a Prius!

Riiight! Like you'd allow anyone driving a Prius to come to your house.

[Coffee]

Unless you OWN a Prius. In which case I'll deny I even know you.

(Welcome to the forum, Noob!)

And "mimeograph"??? How old are you?

Reckon I've always been a country boy soul trapped in a city boy life. I'd LOVE to live out in the country, with nobody around but nature, and a big hillside out back to dig a berm into. Don't want any horses or cows though, not into riding horses or the care and expense of big critters. Maybe some chickens, and lots of trees for shade and wild birds. And some squirrels for shooting amusement and cheap chow.

Technically, I'm "city". But I'm trying to get a taste of the country life. I live on the edge of my city. This is my view from my back porch.

It works for now until I can afford to buy some of my own land and move further out.

I wouldn't mind some chickens, just no annoying roosters though -- I'm not a morning person.

Never, BG! And the automated defense systems, including the 500 megajoule cannons delete Blue Prius models from this dimension before even getting up the hill!

To reassure: K's going to put a blower in the Durango. Just because. (And if you caught that inference I owe you a coffee!)

[ROFL3]

It isn't the years, it's the mileage, right? "There's no flag on the play, nothing to see here, move along. . .."

I feel younger than I look; let's leave it at that, okay?

I'd be more impressed if she put the blower on the trike!

Lastly, Do you leave your keys in your vehicles and your house is unlocked? NO AND NO.

AND YES, THE DRIVE TENDS TO SCARE THE HELL OUT OF VISITORS.

WE ALSO KEEP CHICKENS AND GROW A GARDEN. PROBABLY GET A COUPLE OF GOATS WHEN MY DAUGHTER IS A LITTLE OLDER.

My parents still live in rural TN. A few years ago they moved onto only 11 acres so the driveway is right off the road. Have goats and chickens etc. House itself is rarely locked. Car keys are by the door but no one locks the cars. Nobody cares about shooting in TN. Doesnt snow there but it gets icy as hell, very few snowplows. No neighbors close enough to yell at, and the trees are so thick they wouldnt hear you anyway. Power goes out often, mostly because of trees falling over or lightning strike.

Here in CO I live in town, which is fine by me as it keeps the wife happy.
