Way back when, when I was a tech, my wallet would cringe when the Snap On and MAC guys would roll up to the shop.... Thank goodness they had interest free credit back then. I guess the plus side is my children will inherit really cool tools.

Side note: do you do alignments on non German cars?

They already own mine.

I don't have an alignment machine, but the guy next door does. If you need one I can get you in there for a pretty good price. A decent alignment machine, lift and all runs in the 70K range. Um... no. Wife would kill me, or divorce me, or both.

ETA: What I really need to do is convince the Snap On guy to just call me for my weekly payments. When he stops by I walk on the truck and walk out with stuff in my hands. Not sustainable.[ROFL2]

I hope to have the cash flow to justify another lift by the middle of summer.

Are the Snap On wheel balancers better than the COATS balencers these days... I know the Snap On has always been more expensive but in the past they weren't any better--- circa pre-2000

Should I bring the truck and new tires by tomorrow so you can test it out?

This one is pretty top of the line as far as I can tell. Never played with one before. It will tire to rim match for better balance. It will hid sticky weights behind the spokes. I have one of my wheels on there now but I haven't ordered any wheel weights yet so I am just playing more then anything. My tires do need balancing though so I will be ordering some weights and knocking that out tomorrow or Friday.

Never used a snap on tire balancer, but we got a brand new hunter machine that has a red dot laser designator for weights that is pretty tits, regardless thats a nice machine.

They have some really slick tire balancers these days. Carquest sent some guy to show me the latest and greatest. It used lazers to read the tread, look for damage, show the wear of the tread or sidewall, balance it and everything. If I was a tire store I would need one. But I am a repair shop that also does tires so I don't quite need all that. The volume matters.

Not so much, though I did get some tools off the truck for "free" with the purchase.

I mean with anything. Even if it's something silly. I'll be living off Santa Fe and Belleview soon. So I'll be closer.

I meant to use it today on my X5 but I was slammed all day and tomorrow looks just as good.

ETA: I did spin one of my wheels on it and it showed it being out of balance, which I knew already I can feel it at certain speeds. The sad part of that is these tires were put on right before I bought it and have less then 4k miles on them. So the guy who did the job must be blind in one eye and not have his other one. Easy to use, but what tire balancer isn't?

Aww yes, snap on likes guys who spend money, lol. I have a nice little balance with them that I keep from the wife. Nothing to what you have, since you are your own shop. Update season has started here, so I need to fork over $500 smooth ones for my 12.4 software, so I can get 13.2 free. We have one of the slick Hunter balancers at our shop. Its far and away nicer then the junk I was using at the chain shop I used to work for.

I have used the road force once, nice. This once does most of what that does though not the road force.

I had been a die hard matco guy up until the last couple years, their stuff got really cheap. Mac did the same. I started buying all snap on and yes its a higher standard and price reflects. But what the hell happened to their air tools?!? It seems like they are junk....I bought their new 1/4" air ratchet, broken it twice in 6 months. My buddy got the new 1/2" gun, the trigger has fallen off twice. I Still like snap on, its just about all I buy besides a few cornwell promo items here and there

I get the feeling that they are moving towards all electric and their R&D is showing thin on the pneumatic. My little 1/4 drive air ratchet is going strong (Matco) but I rarely use it. I am typically using my hands or electric Makitas. I rarely use pneumatic anymore at all these days. Electric 1/2 and 3/8 for most heavy work and my hands or the Makitas for the small stuff.

ETA: For math and stuff

I have the new snap on 3/8's electric impact, put an 18v battery on it and it gets with it. Got a few makita guns too, but the snap on electric gun line is bad ass

I have been using Milwaukee for my impacts, they rock. Not all that powerful, but they get the job done.

Air tools go Ingersoll/Rand, best on the market. Great, now you can bust my wife's winter tires off for me!

Like with anything it is what you make of it. I can say my snapon guy is by far one of the tool guys I have dealt with.
