Looking at the scores, some of you need to slow down a tad and get your hits. It takes 0.1 to 0.3 seconds more for most people to shoot a -0. Goal should be to keep points down in the 25 or less range.
Lol slowing down. That's a grand idea, if I could just get myself to
do it!
I need to speed up. People with twice as many points down as me are still scoring better in the end.

Though i've tried it a few times, I never have my best scores when I make an effort to slow down and drop fewer points. Just two weeks ago I went 10 seconds slower at Fridpa, dropped fewer points, but ended up with a worse score overall. Didn't have much fun shooting that way, either.
Edit: Just glancing over the scores from Fridpa and Ecoidpa this month, I count four experienced shooters who attended both matches and had better scores in the match where they shot faster raw times.

I just need to eliminate mental errors, usually caused by focusing too much on one aspect/skill to the detriment of other skills.
Balance, discipline and more practice.

Although I look at my score after a match, I don't take it too seriously (a good thing with scores like mine). 90% of the reason I am out there is for the fun factor. The other 10% is to learn how to run my gun under somewhat unusual circumstances and from odd angles. One thing I learned, and seem to have to keep relearning, is that trigger control is paramount. Competition also exposes the (many) flaws I need to work on during practice. In the end, though, I try not to lose sight of the fact that I truly enjoy shooting; I guess what I am trying to say is that I am okay with improving incrementally and not trying to rush it. I know me, and if I push it too hard, it will become drudgery. Of course, it's a fine line between pushing too much and not enough and everyone has to find where that line is for them.
Anyone know who the photographer was that was there? He was taking a lot of photos and I didn't hear him ever ask anyone if they were okay with their picture being taken.

I probably know...was he an older guy and wearing a CRC badge? I chewed him out last time for not asking. If anyone knows who it was, please send me a PM so I can deal with it with the BOD. I don't mind, in fact encourage spectators, but photography without permission is not okay with me. They need to ask.
PLEASE, feel free to ask, write down names of anyone who does such, and or ask them to stop unless they get permission. I will back any of our shooters, so please help me out.
He was a young guy. He was shooting (photos) in our squad for a while, then he took off to another berm. He was wearing a pistol, but I never actually saw him shoot.
] Pretty sure he was with the ECOIDPA or whatever.

Kris probably knows who it was. We will get the MDs on the same page and make sure that anyone capturing images of the action shooting matches get permission by those he or she is taking images of first.
Thanks for asking Irving. :)

He was out there to take pics of our squad and friends he shoots with. It's for the ECO web page. I will personally go through them and make sure that if he got anyone else but us in the pics that they aren't posted.
Talk about quick resolution, and even on a holiday. :)

We are shooters....it's all about fast results!
I wasn't trying to start any trouble or anything. That was exactly what I figured Kris. I don't mind pictures, just want to know who is taking them and why. If anyone asked I was going to say that he told me he was from Mother Earth News.

I had to do a double take. Seems like this Saturday should be the 4th Saturday, but it isn't. This whole 4th Sunday but 3rd Saturday being on the same weekend is totally throwing off my internal match clock.
See everyone out there in another week.

Yeah i had to check the calendar and count because I originally thought it was this weekend too LOL
See you guys tomorrow!
Say, if anyone has a nice leather holster for sale for a Beretta Brigadier (Elite), please bring it to show me.
I'll be there. Looking forward to it.
Nice seeing everyone today. Thanks for letting me shoot through your Chrono Mike and Sean, I really appreciated that.
It was definitely a good time today. Hell, I even shot a perfectly clean stage. I won't comment on the other four stages. [Coffee]

I moved well yesterday and didn't shoot any hostages/innocents, but accuracy was mediocre at best. Been slacking on dry fire practice.

We were glad as well. I like to change up squads on occasion to check out who is doing what. Thanks again for letting me use your chrono after the match.
Scores are up, by the way.
Anyway we can run the fifth stage with a dueling tree or something? Just have pre-printed, blank bracket sheets. Randomly fill in all the shooters' names, and the stage is run as a single round elimination where winner goes on to next round until only one shooter is left. Wouldn't be scored like a regular stage, but would be fun for bragging rights. Then, after all the stages have been shot, the winners of each group would shoot against each other. I bet a lot of people would stay to watch that.
If you only have one thing like two Texas-Stars, or two plate racks, then there shouldn't be much for the RO to have to watch all at once. Plus, there are usually enough regulars to have someone volunteer as an extra score keeper.
I had considered the idea of just having the stage set up with four identical targets on each side, but then you have to keep track of movement for two people at once, so just a stationary plate rack would be safer.
We do have 2 Texas Stars. and we have a dueling tree. We are working on getting a plate rack, but we don't have one yet.
As far as range use issues such an idea is not an problem though?

As long as it is in a match with RO/SOs, no issues at all.
I'm all for the dueling tree. I like those things. Separates the men from the boys.
Although it will mean burning through a lot of extra ammo.

I had considered this (only for the winners ;) ), and it will be intimidating for new shooters. BUT, I think it is too fun to not try.

Dueling tree stage could be cool.
I'd like to see a stage with something PT-related involved, like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjkzWw6nLKs
Awww yeah.

Nothing wrong with that. If you like that kind of thing, the Iron Man makes that look like playing with dolls. We already ran the MEGA stage match this year, but we will do it next June. Took the average person about 8 minutes and about 200 rounds fired.
When the platform is ready (hope soon), you will have the option to run up and down steps too. You can put a stopwatch on a guy and give them 60 seconds to go up and down the stairs, 1 second off for each flight of stairs, then do a field course. Physical exertion before, or within a stage should be done a lot more than it is.

If I wanted exercise I'd golf or play softball or something.

Not to fuel the fire, but I thought this was an interesting exercise in chewing gum, rubbing your belly, playing chess, long division, and expert marksmanship [LOL]

SAFriday once mentioned that there are shooters over on Brian Enos forum that practice movement in their garage on a treadmill with a gas powered airsoft gun. We got rid of our treadmill before I ever tried it. I've got a stair climber now. The guy in the video had that thing crankex up way higher than I thought.
I like the idea of something a little more physical, but every where I've shot has someone with a disability that would make a physical stage like that impossible.
Everyone I ever spent time with on the range and had respect for, believed that once you master something you should cut your time and add more difficulty. No one is so good they don't need more practice.
I like the creativity that goes into some of the dynamic shooting.

I don't want to spill all the beans but I have a cool match in the planning stages......
IDPA Team Trials - team of 4 shoot through the match and scoring will be as follows for certain stages:
All 4 shooters run stage like a normal match, but times/scoring is added together for final stage score
All 4 shooters run stage, times/scores are averaged for that stage score
All 4 shooters run stage with a running timer one after another, total score counts (like a relay)
All 4 shooters run stage, best time/score gets recorded
Shooting is a individual sport for the most part, would think there would be some interest for a team event and it would put a cool spin on IDPA events
What say you guys?

I like this idea, but try to do stuff differently than other IDPA clubs. Thats why we have 5 stages instead of 4 and a side match. I have gotten a few people asking about a side match, but not too many have shown interest. I would consider 4 stages and a side match, but 5 and a side is almost too long for a lot of people that come out and shoot.
At the next shooters meeting remind me and I will ask, and if there is enough interest, I don't have an issue running one. The other thing we have to consider is that the Cowboy shooters need the range after us as well, so we might have to break down and then set up the side match on one of the berms they aren't gonna use, or reuse a stage and change stuff up a bit. I'm not opposed, just trying to coexist with the rest of the disciplines that shoot out there too.
What say you guys?
Any idea how you are going to decide who gets paired up?
I have no friends so not sure who would want me dragging them down.

I would set it up with pre-reg so we know how many would come etc, and then randomly select teams. Or if you wanted to shoot with a buddy, you could but could only have 1 other buddy or something like that. I want to keep it fair so everyone has a chance too
I LOVE all the cool ideas, and think that running five stages allows us to have the standard 4 IDPA stages that are strict IDPA, and the fifth stage can be a wild card. That way we can break from the mold a bit, but still appease the main shooter base that showed up to shoot an IDPA match.

Would be awesome to shoot a few optional stages or a side match with a rifle!
Yeah I'd love a rifle stage, if only for more excuse to run around shooting stuff with my SBR.

True. As much as I like variety and novelty, I think the club should be careful as to not stray too far away from IDPA rules. I think that's part of the reason this club was started in the first place. I could see the potential of running off some shooters that are looking for a legit IDPA match. That's not to say, though, that you can't hold a special match with some advanced notice or the like.

For the most part our stages are pretty close to what IDPA asks for. I tossed in a rifle shot at the last match but I've seen some pretty non conforming stages at other local Clubs that have been around way longer than we have!
In addition, we agree to run our matches under the recognized rules of a national organization. There are insurance and other considerations as well.

Great match with a lot of tight shots, movement and swingers. Stages had just the right amount of strong/weak hand shooting and tactical sequence. Its pretty rare to get to shoot out of a "real" car in a local match, so that stage was a treat. This match was more on par with stages I've seen at major IDPA events, which I really appreciate going into big matches over the next few months.

HAHA) but rest assured you are in good hands! I promise I will return next month with some more course of fire goodness!

Good match yesterday. Some tough conditions in the morning made setup slow and challenging. Thanks to those who helped with setup and special thanks to the folks from Buffalo Creek Gun Club who came down from the hills and provided a ton of assistance and great camaraderie. IMO they made the difference between a fun well run match and and all day grind.

That's pretty off. It has some pessimistic ideas about how fast you can/should drive on dirt roads. It's an hour 45 from Colorado Springs, if that helps.

What part of west side of Denver you coming from? I70/Wads is faster than Quincy/Wads.
You will arrive a few minutes(10-15) early, typically, if you allow 1 hour from E 470 and I70.

Takes me about an hour from Thornton I think.
From I-70 and Wadsworth it is about 70 minutes if you go the speed limit and don't granny it on the dirt roads. If you only go 25 mph on the dirt roads, add 20 minutes, which is a good call if muddy.

cool, ty all for the info... Hopefully I'll be able to drag my ass out of bed early enough to make it up there. Was planning to hit the one up at clear creek a couple weeks back, but schedule didn't work out. I'm coming from chatfield area, so it'll be a little haul, but I'm going to give it a try.
I looked thru all the info on the links provided above, but couldn't tell how many mags and how much ammo I need. Planning to shoot my 1911, but also have my sr9c as an option.
Matches are no more than 90 rounds, but it is possible to reshoot a stage. I don't think I've ever shot more than 100. You can get by with 3 mags, but 4 is better, especially with a 1911. This match is five stages instead of the usual four, so count on the higher end of 90 rounds.

Hope you all enjoyed the match today. If you enjoyed the new platform in berm 7, a note to board members thanking them for funding it would be helpful. Now that the land purchase has been completed, we are hopeful that some more improvements to the East range will occur in 2015, so letting the BOD know that we appreciate their support is good for us all.
I certainly enjoyed the platform. Thanks to whomever built it. Took forever to break down at the end of the match and barely fit in the shed though.

Hey all, the October ECOIDPA match is sadly cancelled.
Almost all the staff is out of town, and I don't want to shove all of that on just a few people.
Sorry for those of you looking forward to it, we will sneak another one or two in before the New Year.
Can't we just have Kevin show up at 4am? He should have plenty of time to set the entire thing up by the time I get there at 9:45ish.

If it's possible to pull it off.......I'm willing to get out there really early and help set everything up, in order to help keep the regularly scheduled plan going..... AND get started on time.
I will however, need to boogie out of there as soon as the last shots are fired....I have a very important meeting to attend by 3:00 pm over in Westminster.
I think it is more an issue of lack of people to run each stage, rather than just the set-up.

Thank you for a great day at CRC and it was cool to see a few familiar faces up there today, met a couple of new friends up there too.
Great match today. I had a lot of fun and like it when the Air Force shooting team shows up. I wish they'd integrate into the other groups though. How much did the winner end up taking?
OtterbatHellcat
11-22-2014, 18:02
I heard it was $85, Irving.
Nice to see you up there today, bro. I'd rather have been in the same group with you though.
When Kris mentioned it was up to $80, that was before me and at least 3 other people signed up, so I thought it might have even been $100. I really liked this side match idea though. I didn't have high hopes, but stuck around anyway and was glad that I did because I got lucky and cleared it in much less time than I thought. We'll shoot again soon I'm sure OBC.

The shootout stage paid out $100!!!!
they can't integrate more because they have to all be near that security guy, so the are kinda stuck together.

The barrel stage killed a lot of people, it was a tough one...don't beat yourself up over it. Where you really want to gauge yourself is on the Classifiers.... those are an apples to apples comparison.
When is the next classifier by the way, Spring? I'm determined to move up out of Marksman this year.

Hey all,
MATCH FOR TOMORROW 4/25/15 (https://www.ar-15.co/x-apple-data-detectors://0) IS CANCELLED
We've got a freshly graded range with a lot of soft dirt on it, and a forecast saying it may rain tomorrow. Any amount of water is going to make the range a mess, and I don't want to rut up the freshly graded road.
I'm also short staffed on SO's who have other obligations - this is a volunteer sport so not much I can do on that front. ( If you'd like to help out - We have an SO certification class May 2nd (https://www.ar-15.co/x-apple-data-detectors://1) and we are always looking for new SO's, let me know if you are interested)
Thanks all, we will be giving it another go next month.
Thanks

Boo, hiss.
Looks like I won't miss the May match after all. Looks like they canceled it due to the weather.
Maybe see you guys in June. Weather permitting, of course.
Not sure why. I was at the range yesterday and it was dry by noon after an hour of rain in the morning. With the new berms, drainage, etc. it is MUCH better than last year. If we can keep the idiots from getting stuck in the wet spots, we will be fine. It takes a few hours of sun to dry out is all.
Based on the current weather forecasts, it will be dry and sunny on Saturday.
I think I'm eventually going to have to venture out and start shooting other matches or disciplines. Seems getting the IDPA matches off at CRC just doesn't happen as often as I want.
IDPA keeps you shooting and it is the least costly action shooting sport. So plan carefully. :)
Do you have any weekdays off?

Getting the the matches off as in off of work or them actually happening?
If it's the latter, we all want to shoot but we also have the largest group of new shooters per match other than multi gun. While the range has better drainage and it's not a big deal to a lot of shooters to navigate some puddles and mud, it's still wet and slick. The last thing I want is a less seasoned guy/gal slipping and firing a round in to a squad mate or him/herself.
It it sucks we can't have the match, trust me I'm the first to agree with that, but until we stop getting 10-15 new shooters every match I can't and won't compromise the safety of my shooters just so the match happens.
Vanniek71
06-23-2015, 15:19
All,
Its supposed to rain a bit out in Byers Thursday and possibly Friday so we may have a bit of mud to deal with but we are planning on having the match.
A few things:
DO NOT drive up next to the berms if it is muddy, this trashes them and makes set up a pain and it ruins all the work that they just had done to level everything out.
BRING BUG SPRAY - The vampires are out in full force from all of the moisture.
We had a great response to the shoot off the last time we were able to do one......so bring $5 extra cash...as a bonus stage we will be having a shoot off with the winner taking 100% of the pot!

I asked the guy that won it for his autograph and he told me to get bent.... What a jerk [ROFL2]
He was just upset he lost by less than 1/2 a sec to a sub compact in the challenge stage. ;) He absolutely killed the match by the way. [Beer]
Speaking of the challenge stage, I really liked this one as extra distance tends to reinforce fundamentals. At least it does for me when targets are far enough away that I can't see my shots.

Great match; having that extra "buffer" stage is a great idea. Also, thanks for the quick score turnaround.
The challenge stage was fun, too.
Pretty happy with my performance this time around. Definitely have a lot of room to improve but feeling good that I'm not getting worse. I think switching to a Glock helped. I've always shot them better than anything else.
Just wanted to thank everyone who makes the matches possible. We all appreciate your time and effort.

Hey all,
Its that time of month again for some ECOIDPA. This month is going to be a bit different due to some possible weather factors, the main one being the forecast calls for thunderstorms starting around 1pm. Due to this we aren't going to run a challenge stage this month. There will still be 5 normal stages, but hopefully we will be done before the storms show up. Times have also been adjusted slightly so please read below if you are planning on attending to make sure you show up at the right time.

Not only was the earlier start time nice ( it's gonna stay that way I think) but all the help was awesome today.
Oh yeah, here are the scores too!
Hey all,
Careful these scores came out so fast they are red hot!!!! LOL
Thanks everyone for coming out and shooting, one of the funnest matches I've shot. All your help was greatly appreciated!
Thanks again,

Ditto.
And I support the new start time.
I'm pretty happy with my performance today. Tenth out of twenty-five shooters. Not too shabby considering it was my first time out with a new gun.
Probably switch it up at the next match and try a different gun in a different division just for grins.

You shot the fastest I think I've ever seen you shoot today. Actually, everyone in our group was really tearing it up today.
Thanks.
As a group we were on it.
I started picking up some speed today, except for the long shot stages. Looking back, I wasted a ton of time on a couple stages, following up good hits that I couldn't see. Need to have the confidence to trust my accuracy.

Strong mix of speed and accuracy.
Is the "ratio" on the score sheet like the USPSA type scoring?
Is the "ratio" on the score sheet like the USPSA type scoring?
I've wondered what that was as well. Mine was a fuzz under 75% but I don't have a clue if that's a good number or a bad number or what it means.

I don't know about USPSA, but it is the ratio of your score to the top score.
Top score / your score = ratio.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
From what I remember, that is how USPSA scores you. There is a thread in here all about USPSA scoring. Looks like just a little cross over scoring.
What I've noticed from the scores is that best raw time beats out accuracy almost every time, to a point. Something to think about when you reach the point that you can reliably trust your sight picture to give you good shots, that's the time to really start opening the throttle.
I think next match I'm going to speed up as much as I can and see what happens. I do think there's something to being fast and having quite a few points down versus taking it a little slower and not having so many points down.
Guess we'll see what happens.
I think I'm going to shoot CCP next match just to check it out. Probably mean an extra reload on every stage though. Guess we'll see what happens there too.

If you're down zero on a stage, you're shooting too slow.
I've been on a bit of a "reestablishment" regime, and the accuracy-reestablishment tactic at this match is perfect for illustration. Even with zero points down, it would not have been possible to come in first. Rather similar to people who try to save money to compensate for lack of earnings; there's only so much you can save, particularly if you're already frugal. If you're accurate enough, you need to push speed. That's for next month.

I'll be posting all the details a little later today in this thread... Stay tuned!
www.ecoidpa.com (http://Www.ecoidpa.com) end time can vary, but usually about 2ish? Start time is no 9:30. Brand new shooters need to be registered by 8:15 am, and attend the new shooter's meeting at 8:30 am. Look forward to seeing you there. There are a bunch of us here who shoot this match, and we mostly know each other, but no one ever asks who's from the board out loud for some reason.

Yours. Pretty quick shooting. I decided a few matches ago (but keep forgetting each time until scores come out) that my goal is to start shooting under 100 seconds total match time, and I haven't even done it on a raw time yet.
Well, as fast as I was trying to go I was less than two seconds faster than you and had way more points down. Seems I either need to back off the throttle a bit and make better shots or learn to make better shots with the pedal to the metal.
Oh, well. Think I'll shoot CCP next time and see how that goes. Having an extra reload on each stage should bring my time back down.
Thanks, I really need to work on my speed though. I think I'm gonna work on my reloads with some snap cap loaded mags. Oh, and my shield is a 9.

Snap caps work, but I practice with dummy rounds that I load myself. Just case and bullet....no powder or primer - its a lot closer to the real weight and makes a difference! And you are welcome on the scores....I hate waiting so I never want to make you guys wait!

Always free for spectators.
Depends on which flavor you prefer. USPSA is more pure sport, IDPA tries to follow a more defensive minded rule set. If you have minimal equipment IDPA is where you will want to start, USPSA is more gear intensive.
Right on. We'll grab our eyes and ears and come check it out. Thanks.

I missed recording stage three so here is stage four. I like to call this one "rug burn".
http://youtu.be/H1dmaRdCJWQ
And here is the fifth stage. It was pretty busy and I found it a bit overwhelming to make my way through it. Definitely slowed me down.
http://youtu.be/Q-F-4W1rqeI
I found the match quite challenging today. The stages were a little more involved than they sometimes are, I had never fired a round through the gun I used today (Glock 26), the magazines were small and difficult to deal with, and it was my first time shooting the CCP division so dealing with less capacity than I'm used to meant extra reloads.
Still a good time though.
Wow that is exactly as I designed it; nice to see it in action. Thanks for building it Kris. Thanks for filming it Ray. That want the stage everyone grumbled about was it? Lol. There is usually at least one.
Yours may have been one of the easier ones. Lol.
Between running the 26 for the first time and dealing with the small magazines and shooting CCP at 8 rounds instead of SSP or ESP at 10 it really slowed me down. Having complex stages only compounded the problem. Lol.
I need to see if I can find a good way to design stages on my iPad. I have lots of cool ideas floating around in my head.

The confusing stage was mine :) Ran in to one with MORE no shoots at last years Utah state match so decided to morph it and use it!
Also:
Just got the scoring sheets in hand, will get scores and results up as soon as I can.

I need to see if I can find a good way to design stages on my iPad. I have lots of cool ideas floating around in my head.
Trident Stage Designer is all platform compatible. It's $10 to join but if you are stage designing, one of the easiest out there to use.
