Before the messiah makes them illegal, I think my next purchase will be a .50 BMG upper. I noticed the most recent thread is now a couple years old and a couple of the players are out of the market now.
I'm thinking a bolt action magazine fed upper would be what I'm after. What out there is good? Anything in particular I should steer clear of?

Truly, get a dedicated rifle.
You will be much happier in the long run.
Trust me, I have been there...

What issues did you have with just buying the upper?

Generally speaking poor quality.
I had a BOHICA: would not extract, mallet and range rod were SOP after each shot, gets old REALLY quick.
Had my firing pin stuck forwrd once, protruding out of the bolt face...
Thankfully I did not try to force the bolt close or I would be missing a few fingers at least.
All because of a bent c-clip...
Just do a websearch under "BOHICA KABOOM".
I read of other uppers having the same kind of "malfunctions".
50 BMG is no pussycat, you have a LOT of gunpowder going off a fe2w inches from your face.
Get a quality rifle, Barrett 99 my pick, but AR-50 if on the cheapo.
You can make more money, but regrowing body parts is not easy...
I agree, though I have no experience. I do think barrett's a bit overpriced. There are a few other brands that seem reputable, or if nothing else way more "cool" since that's what half of the people buying one are after.
I forget the names, but there's one company makes a dedicated magazine fed both bolt and semi.
My favorite for looks is the RND 3000 (youtube it)
AR-50 like he said.
I really WISH oh so very badly we could get the GM6 lynx in the US.
