FIFY

The same brand of idiot who takes tracers to a grassland and sets it on fire. There's at least one in every crowd.

I used to shoot there when I worked in Dallas. A decent, but mildly overpriced place. A shame to see it burn.
When I worked at a range, we used to have a no steel-core, no tracer policy. People would get butt-hurt when we'd ask to inspect their ammo. I would tell them that I wasn't looking to offend, but I also didn't want to offend the workers of the transmission shop directly behind our backstop wall. All it takes is one willful idiot...

Yeah, steel core ignite sparks. I've seen that in a videotape.

I've seen 9mm tracers that had no red paint on the tips and looked just like ball ammo. If you got the ammo second hand, you might not know they were tracers until you fired them, and even then some are not bright enough to see unless it is dark.

Oh, I don't know, probably about half of the attendees at any Tanner Gun Show if they had the opportunity?

Boulder rifle club had a fire during a match once. Guy finished his stage and then it got put out. I think dry leaves were the culprit.

DFW Gun Range cleaned up the mess and later reopened.

Maybe I'm reading that wrong but it appears it wasn't too big a deal and they're back in business. It sounded to me like the shredded rubber berm may have been what burned but the bldg must be somewhat intact if they reopened.

I remember qualifying out at Buckley sometime in the 90's; ammo was short and all that was available was tracer. So we shot tracer during qual. The old range out near the south end of the north/south runway always had lots of weeds growing out past the last line of target holders, and this was in August. I think we had two or three small brushfires during firing. And it was fairly breezy, which made it more interesting...."CEASE FIRE! GUNS DOWN AND SAFE! GRAB THE EXTINGUISHER!!" LOL...the weeds weren't such a big deal, but the big wooden creosote soaked posts they were around started to be!

Public side of FiringLine has caught fire both times I've been there in the last few months. Just target trash burning along the wall, had to extinguish with the garden hose available on the range. :)

Click on the thumbnail pics... Building is gone.
The article was poorly written, it reopened after cleaning up a flood that happened some years ago.
