View Full Version : Only one entry to 10mm?
I am certainly not starting trouble but I am a bit shocked to see only one entry to the 10mm club on the CO AR site.
If you get a chance borrow a COLT DELTA 10mm ot the Glock 10mm (I am not personally familiar with the Glock version) and give this caliber a chance!
I have a .357 mag and have fired many "healthy" pistols but I certainly have enjoyed the Colt Delta 10mm!
I found one used with some holster wear around $500.
Kick ass pistol and highly advised as a trustworthy sidearm!
Thanks for your interest in the 10mm.

Good news....
There will again be re-birth of the Delta Elite as the "New Delta Elite"http://www.10mmtalk.com/index.php?showtopic=8718&hl=delta+elite
and....
Detonics is going to be producing firearms again.
Personally my favorite 10mm is the Olympic Arms K-10 carbine and Gen 1-2 Glock 20 without the finger grooves.... my paws are too big.
Owned one for a while. Just didnt see the big attraction. Expensive brass. Lots of recoil and muzzle blast.
If a 40 wont work, a full power 10 aint gonna help.

That response is like saying that there was no need for further developement of the 30 cal military round and should still be the 30-40 Krag.
Expensive brass and more blast and recoil was how they looked at the 30-06 too.
Having been hit by a 9mm round and still here to talk about it, it is my minimum as a back-up size cartridge.
The 1986 FBI shootout had a lot to do with developement in bullet design and ballistics testing and the outcome was the 10mm round.
Because the round was large and too powerful for some the 10mm lite or 40s&w was developed.
Most of today's commercial 10mm ammo is somewhere between FBI loads and 40s&w... closer to the 40.
So if you don't reload the 10mm or buy premium full house loads it is really a relic and you are better off with the 40 short & weak.
But....
If you buy full house loads the energy and velocity is almost equal to the 41 magnum.
Unlike the 40 and 9mm over-penetration is an issue and the reason why many police departments have moved away from this round.
If you reload the price to reload and shoot after aquiring brass is the same as thh 40s&w.
As far as muzzle blast/recoil... it is less in a G20 than a 6" 357mag with 158 grain bullets.
In fact the impulse felt as recoil or muzzle rise is greater in a 1911- 45ACP.
One thing to consider when choosing a defense weapon... is what obstacles will you be encountering and what clothing will need to be penetrated as well.
An overweight person wearing a denim or leather jacket will not generally be stopped by shots into center mass by either a 9mm or 40s&w... in fact bullet penetration 3-4" through denim or leather is considered good in these rounds. Auto glass, car doors or dry wall serriously effect these rounds as well to the possibility of zero penetration with some bullets.
These situations are where the 10mm shines.
I'd always rather bring too much gun to a gun-fight than not enough.
the reason there is only 1 thread or very few threads in any of the forums here is due to the time elapsed between posts... increase the activity, the amount of threads will increase ;)

I went to 10mm just for hatred of the 40. I didn't want an under powered catridge, especially when carrying as a hunting sidearm. I couldn't turn down 15 shots of .41 mag in bear country, and it finishes a deer or elk better than anything ive ever used.
As far as reloading, i'm doing it for around 2.5 cents a shot now that i have brass, that is with home cast lead bullets though.
I have three 10mm's (a glock 20c, two s&w's a 1006 and a 1076) I do some reloading for my 10mm's, but dt has some impressive loads for the 10mm, and I have picked up a few boxes from them.
