Hello,

I just got to Colorado a month ago and now I'm looking for places to shoot. I'm aware of the north shoot place but I have not been there and I do not know how long the range is there. I live in Broomfield and if the range is long enough I'm willing to go down as far as Colorado Springs.

Is there a place where I can shoot a rifle for more than 200 yards outside private ranges? I'd join a range except the waiting list seems to be pretty long.

The reason I ask this is because I'm looking to buy a .308 bolt rifle soon as I don't have one but I might just stick with my AR's if I can't find a place to shoot long range.

I have access to a private range up in Ft. Lupton, about 168th and I25 that goes out to 300yds. Lemme know when you want to go, I need to get my 6.5 Grendel tuned and sighted in.

Pawnee National Grassland, about an hour and a half, to two hours north on I-25.
Public land, you could get 1000 yards if you want.

Maverick, you can't get 200 yds at the north site, but check out Boulder Rifle Club. They have public days all weekends in the fall and first weekend of the month rest of the year. I have not been there, but have talked to them and will head up there soon.

Kelly, can you tell me more about that range. I think it is WHOC, but I have emailed them multiple times for info on the range and how to join, can't raise a soul about it. I would like to have a place that close to shoot everything, but I would like to know more about it (pics, setup, etc.). Can you help?

Its not a 'club'. Its the private land of a friend of mine thats an avid hunter. Its basically a 1/8th square acreage wise. If you look at the 'making payments' pictures from June, you can kinda see how its laid out.

I know of spots in the NF where you can reach out a long way, but I'm down south.

There's a free, public DOW range on US40, between Hot Sulphur Springs and Parschall. A long drive, but a nice one, and there's some pretty long rifle ranges there. Pistol, shotgun and bow ranges too. There's this sign there, but I don't have the stamp and have never seen anybody asking for them.

You could also join up at Ben Lomond Gun Club, we have a high-powered rifle range out to 600 yards. www.blgc.org

BLGC looks very nice, well maintained and good selection of ranges. Unfortunately its about 2 hours from my place, one way... (115 miles). The other free range is about 2 hours from where I live as well, LOL.

200, 300, 500 and 600 yd ranges do sound nice.
