I called the NY illegal gun report hotline. and was immediately connected to a operator of some sort in NY who explained that yes, this is a gun-reporting hotline. He could not explain how it was that I collect my $500, but he did confirm that this was intended for use in reporting gun violations regarding the new laws in NY. He didn't seem happy that I was calling from Colorado, so I told him I was an interested citizen in a state that is learning the Nazi law from NY, looking at various new laws around the country, and how happy I was that this was toll free so the price of the call would be on the backs of NY taxpayers who voted Bloomberg and Cuomo.
Call now and see for yourself. Ask lots of questions. Ask any stupid question that might occur to you; can you get $500 for reporting a nail gun? The laws are very confusing, it might take awhile to explain. It's toll free! 1-855- 486-7697
well that is 1-855-HUMP-NYS or HUMP-MY-P, so clearly they're trying to F everyone...

NY State has established a toll-free tip line – 1-855-GUNSNYS (1-855- 486-7697) to encourage residents to report illegal firearm possession. The tip line also allows for information to be submitted via text – individuals can text GUNTIP and their message to CRIMES (274637). The New York State Police staff the tip line 24 hours a day. Upon receiving a call, troopers will solicit as much information as possible regarding a firearm tip then contact the appropriate police agency with the lead to initiate an investigation. If the information leads to an arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm, the “tipster” will be awarded $500.

That's a good idea. Kinda like stuffing a "Business Reply" envelope full of crap and sending it back at the junk-mailer's expense. I've been known to do that several times with the AARP and the DNC.
