I apologize in advance if these questions are redundant but my "searches" didn't get me the info I needed. Here we go:

- "...owns the large-capacity magazine on the effective date of the bill and maintains continuous possession of the large-capacity magazine". WTF does continuous possession mean?

- with the effective date being 7/1/13, how do I protect myself and my legally obtained magazines (read MY PROPERTY Hickenwhatever) that were purchased prior to said date? Is there some documentation I should be doing now? Of course, for personal records only and potential legal defense.

- we've all been very concerned about the PMAGS, myself included, but doesn't this essentially make the purchase of almost all Glock mags (except some subcompacts) illegal after 7/1/13? Heck, there's mag extensions for the majority of handgun mags.

Thx - Drew

this has been debated to death, nobody really knows how it will pan out. Alot of it is going to be up to each officer and court cases.

As for documentation, there is nothing you can do that would stop a cop that is against you. There is nothing you need to do to stop a prosecutor because they cannot prove anything. But that cop will still take your stuff and make you goto court no matter what proof you have. Personally I'm not worrying about it

Means you have to carry it at all times (shower too)

Go get them notorized

Under a rock lately? Yep, that is what has been implied.

Heck, there's mag extensions for the majority of handgun mags. Thx - DrewAnd that is why this is such BS!

The draft of the bill that I read said the burden of proof was on the state to show that the mags were obtained after the effective date and/or illegally.
That is similar language to the AWB 1994-2004.
That would require a proof of purchase or dates stamped on the mag, etc.
I don't know how the law deals with people moving into Colorado.

"Go get them notarized"

We have a Notary on staff but I'm not sure how this should/would work considering we deal mainly with business contracts. To have them notarized, wouldn't I have to install some sort of identification on each magazine as I would be using a written instrument to claim ownership of said items?

mtnhack, I think I came across one of your posts about notarizing the mags and that was one of the questions that started this post. I just wasn't sure what that involved or how to start.

BTW - the "under a rock" comment wasn't necessary...just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Hell, I had two gun-owning friends tell me today "I guess you have to dump all those PMAGS soon". I'm not protecting their idiocy but I didn't expect a comment like that here.

There is quite a bit of sarcasm and expectancy of a thick skinned nature. Everyone has there own idea of how one should be treated on the internet and I guess I am pretty pessimistic in that way. I didn't mean to offend you.

You need to recognize sarcasm when you see it, mtnhack's post was full of it........

don't say nothin. as long as you don't have mags that have a date stamp after 7/1/13 on them the burden of proof is on them. I wouldn't even get a lawyer. plead the 5th, tell them you owned and possessed them before the law was in effect and that is it.

Agreed with everyone being on edge with the latest events expressions are going to be at a new high here! You do have a point though OP with the majority of people not having a clue as to what is fact and or not even knowing the details of these new "laws" I can see it now. You go to a notary who happens to be a liberal and then notifies the authorities that you have such and such "assault" weapon accessories and therefore are a dangerous and malicious person. Then your home is raided you're hauled off to jail everything is confiscated and the notary receives a $500 reward for their efforts!

NOW I feel like an idiot. I didn't catch the sarcasm and was ready to pursue the "notary" thing. Hook, line, and sinker...got me :( and I feel like a moron. Bad on me and I'll admit it but I thought I had a legitimate question(s). Everyone gave good input whether it was sarcastic or not...solid thanks.

Since the burden of proof is on them...f%ck'em all. However, it does seem like some Sheriff's won't mandate that their officers attempt to enforce what we all know is unconstitutional.

I'm rambling but I don't want to do anything stupid with the liberals screaming for every firearm that isn't a single-shot .22.

Thanks for all the replies. Solid.

Bottom line, stay out of Denver and Denver county, if at all possible, and that should save you most of the headaches

sealer, I was really thinking about mags that are date stamped after 7/13 such as magpul, GI mags that would say they were after the ban date and somehow got into Colorado.
I would not stamp any existing mags. By definition in the law they are assumed to be OK (before 7/1/13) unless the state proves otherwise.

Don't feel like an idiot Sealer, you had some questions and sometimes it's hard to get inflection from text.

Hey, I'm pretty close to Barr Lake myself.. :D
