I'm not really down with the whole "painless" thing....personally, I'd be willing to donate some funds (or tax dollars) for them to hire a "medievalist" and camera crew to make it about as painfully difficult as possible and post the footage online as an example...

Crazy or not, "criminally insane", whatever you want to call it; what, exactly, is keeping this sort alive going to help? Oh, wait, that would be the apologetic progressive's excuse for a conscience, or what passes for one.
Problem is, all of the individuals out there who would do something like this KNOW that the worst they'll face is prison in most cases, thanks to the way the system is run. So there's no real consequence; they get free room and board, and we pay for it. I'd say they win twice, and we lose all the way around.
