View Full Version : Pueblo IDPA - No more matches
Effective immediately Pueblo West will not host any more IDPA matches.
This is primarily due to a lack of people able and/or willing to assist with set-up and the running of matches.
It is a volunteer sport run by volunteers, but there just is not enough volunteers willing to step up and help. Both the Match Director and I have decided to take some time off and do some shooting instead of setting up and tearing down matches.
Clear Creek IDPA matches will continue to be the second Saturdays.
To quote a good friend, "I’ve enjoyed ride." Thanks to everyone over the years that made IDPA in Pueblo a success.
You gotta do what you gotta do. If you can't get assistance with the matches then it’s no fun. If its no fun then why do it right? If I lived closer I would be more than willing to pitch in and help with the matches. But with it being more than 100 miles one way its really not viable for me to go down there all the time.
I have unfortunately seen it happen too many times where there is a "Club" that has only a few dedicated volunteers and the rest sit back and either not help or whine about everything until the few dedicated people finally say "UNCLE" and quit. Then the non-helpers are shocked that the club is gone.

There's a saying in doing any sort of "volunteer" work - 20% of the people do 80% of the work. My experience has always been that 2% of the people do 100% of the work.
Even though I haven't had the opportunity to get involved with IPDA shoots yet, I'm sorry to see this one go, but I can fully understand the reason why it has ended.
If we want to ensure this doesn't happen to more shoots we need to get involved and lend a hand when and where we can.
Hoser - thank you for all of your efforts for the shooting community![Beer]

Hoser - thank you for all of your efforts for the shooting community!
Without him I don't think there would be much of a shooting community around here.
I'd probably never have shot my first IDPA match back in 2003 if he hadn't talked me into it.
It's really amazing how much effort he's put into these events.

+1 on Hoser....
he has been a strong influence on USPSA in the area..working in the Pueblo club and now the Whistling Pines Club, IDPA, Wed night steel and an upcoming regional steel challenge match, Prairie dog, precision rifle match. Not including his shooting 3-gun/Mulitgun, Sportsman's Team Challenge, and many other rifle events.
He puts in more than his fair share..
I think he likes shooting..

Sorry to hear this Hoser.
From what I have heard, you guys have done a GREAT job over the years.
Tim Cannon deserves 100% of the credit for keeping it going as long as it did.
People for the most part just quit coming out early and helping out.
Working your ass off setting stages up while people sit around and BS or just watch you work is a slap in the face.

Yes he does...Tim has done a masterful job at great course design and match running. always fun to shoot with him at the USPSA matches. best to him also.

Tim is a class act Match Director, competitor, and friend. He has done a GREAT job in the 3 years I have shot at Pueblo West. He always put together great stages.
You guys have always done a great job! You've introduced many shooters in the Southern part of the state to IDPA.
This was brought up at the Clear Creek shoot, that it was a possibility. Looks like it is a bit more like confirmed.
Several of the members had stated that if it was on a Sat rather than Sun, they would be able to attend.
With the cost of fuel these days, a car pool should be set up for he northern members.
Hopefully come the annual range meeting you guys can bid for a Saturday, and start back up in the spring. I planned on trying to get down there for your shoots next year. Money is too tight right now, as it is I may have to stop the northern shoots.

You guys are both class acts in my book. Even though I only get down to Pueblo for Eddies matches and not the IDPA matches I know exactly what you are talking about. If we had more help for setup and teardown at Camp Guernsey we might be having more 3 Gun matches up there, but we also had the same 3 or 4 people setting up matches. We got tired! Now people say why don't you have them and I ask them if they ever helped all day saturday when we were there.
