Gun-control advocates hope other companies follow suit
LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Gun stores in areas that Comcast Cable serves are looking for new ways to advertise after the cable provider said it would not accept firearm and ammunition commercials (http://www.jconline.com/article/20130320/NEWS/303200039/Comcast-changes-its-advertising-policy-leaving-gun-stores-out-cold).
Comcast (CMCSA (http://www.usatoday.com/money/lookup/stocks/CMCSA/)), the nation's largest cable-TV company, made the decision last month after it finalized its purchase of media company NBCUniversal, which Adweek magazine (http://articles.latimes.com/2013/feb/20/entertainment/la-et-ct-comcast-guns-20130220) said has had a long-standing in place banning those items and fireworks.

I dumped satellite 4 years ago. Was $70 a month. I used the money to buy silver coins. Started watching free DVD's from the local library. I made a few hundred per cent profit on the silver coins...still got em too.

Capitalist gouger. (OK...not really since you still have them. But you are if you sell them at a "few hundred per cent profit".)
I don't know why I pay for satellite. I rarely watch TV. I wouldn't pay for Comcast if it was the only entertainment on earth.

I canceled Satellite a few years back as well. With all the apps available on the iPad plus NetFlix, Hulu, etc - what is the point?

Yea, read it... Cancel anyway- Same policy!
Only for NBC channels, not all of Comcast. No change from before.

Right but however they do own it..... No?

Comcast controls the majority share of NBC Universal. Not quite a flat out own.

Majority controls..... They have the controlling interest and therefore "control" the rules, regs and network...... IMO they are not working for gun owners rights by going with the rules of NBC- no guns rules..
I think it is pretty normal for the new company to let the old company run itself as much like they did before the takeover as possible; in cases where the company being purchased was profitable before the takeover. Also, while gun rights are important to/for me (and everyone), I don't expect every company to care as much as I do. Preferring not to show gun stuff is not really infringing on any of my rights, especially since it is only on the one channel. One channel that I'm not even sure I watch.

While I respect you choice; I don't believe in supporting a company that doesn't support my 2A rights. Every dime they get, either supports the anti's or doesn't, and when they ban anything 2A directly or indirectly it will ultimately effect you....

couple weeks ago, they announced they were buying the rest of NBC. BTW Comcast was plenty progressive before the NBC deal. Long standing "no weapons on property" policy. Same type of policy that Conoco-Philips got beat up for.
I forgot to add my full disclosure disclaimer that I JUST signed up for a two year contract a couple weeks before this info came out.
The Cable companies need to be broken up like the Telcom monoplies old. They are eve worse than the old Bell empires. This is of serious importance with the advent of how important the internet is for all things in modern life. It's too much power in too few hands.

OK, so the question is Dish or DirectTV? I think Hulu and Netflix suck but that's just my opinion. Netflix isn't as bad but I tried a month of Hulu and could only find a few documentaries to watch. Everything else we like to watch wasn't available to watch on TV only redirects to other sites with the content.
We've been thinking about switching for a while and this seems like a good reason. Whole house DVR is one of the priorities so if anyone has tried Hopper and Genie I'd love some feedback. I'll probably keep Comcast internet, I don't have to pay for it anyway and I'm not sure anyone else can touch their speeds in that arena.

Dish is local Colorado. Few members here are working for them actually. Thanks for the porn hookup, Kwando!
Have always had Direct, we get more than my friends with dish.
Screw Comcast and the jackass they rode in on.

There's a few members that work for Comcast as well. [Coffee]
If I did not need the interweb to surf this fine site, I would dump them too.
