My husband and I are Colorado natives and neither one of us has ever seen one of these. It ran about 50 yards in front of our truck then stopped long enough so we could take some pics. We saw it again a couple of minutes later bounding across another property. This made our trip to the mountains a very memorable one. :)

Thanks! I had no idea how big they really are. At first I thought it was a big fat dog running around. It must have been the size of a Rottweiler.

I saw one near Florence,CO around 1996. It was on the site of the old Florence mining mill. Only one I have ever seen.

Great picture. My luck I would have run over the darn thing.

It's always cool to see wildlife in its natural habitat.

That is cool! I saw one when I was little up by Meeker CO, but I have not seen one since then. That is a big one though, I think that is much larger than average. I could be wrong though. I am glad that you had your camera.

I saw one when elk hunting in the Gore range quite awhile back. Wasn't prepared to get an awesome pic like you were though.

Awesome photo!
I had the irresistable compulsion to go pet my cat after looking at the bobcat's thick fur....:)

Had one down here, was a neat looking big cat but he/she gobbled up our house cat that was out for a stroll. Dang bobcat was back the next day looking for another cat to dine on.

They sound eerie at night - my buddy used to have one that lived in the backwoods of his house in Palmer Lake. (We had one in Larkspur for a while too, although we only saw the evidence of it - never the actual cat. Clawed the shit out of our trees at low levels, and left it's fur all over.) They literally sound like a little girl crying...

Funny thing is I took that picture at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, where they have real bobcats.

I had one come through the parking lot about 15 feet from me this last summer over by Woodmen and I25 where i was working. I was hoping he would come by the next day so I could snap a pic of him.

When I clicked the thread I fully expected something like the second picture. I was happily surprised by the first. Nice shot!

Wow. I bet that bobcat would bring in $600-700 at a fur auction.

Saw one a few years ago off Magnolia Road outside of Boulder. Was coming back from a day of skiing at Eldora and the canyon was closed due to an accident and took Magnolia instead.

Still waiting to see a lion..

That's a monster!! I saw one near FairPlay last summer. It was only about half that size.

That's interesting that you guys agree it's so big. The cameraman (th3w01f) and I were very surprised at that as well. If we had to put a weight on it I would say 60 lbs, easy. But that's in comparison to the dogs I've always been around. I always thought they were in the 20-30lb house cat range.

There's always somebody that has monetary value of an animal in mind......

LOL! The first time I saw a bear run across the road my first thought was "That was one funny lookin' dog."

Cool catch with the camera. I beleive it's a bobcat as well, but it ain't no 60#'s. That would be more the size of a lynx, and although we do have lynx in Colo., they are even more rare to see than the bob kittys.
My buddy caught 4 bobcats this winter and got $1200., but only because one of his dogs damaged one of his hides badly. Fur buyer told him that he docked him $200 for the damaged hide.

We thought it was closer to the size that lynx should be from what we've read but the colors look much more like the bobcats.

I have only seen one bobcat in the wild but it didn't give me enough time to even think about getting my camera out. Nice picture of a hard to photograph animal.
