So I know this has been around a couple places.

We need to Solicit MAGPUL to make dedicated 10 round 458 SOCOM magazines. They would have "Minor" re-tooling to say the needed "10 Round 458 SOCOM" on the PMAG.

PUUURFECTLY LEGAL under the new HB1224 law.

Well...since I have a .458 SOCOM, I'd be all about this.

But if they're going to go to these lengths, it would be nice of them to make a 15 round SOCOM mag; might as well make one to hold the legal limit. I have heard, but can't confirm, that these look an awful lot like 40 round 5.56 mags...[Coffee]

I am not sure what you are talking about sir, these ARE NOT 30rd 5.56 Pmags, they are 10 RD 458 socom mags, see, 10 rds.

My dreams of adding a 458 to my collection is not there yet, I just used that as a random picture off the net.

I have not "contacted" MAGPUL about it yet, but seriously thinking about. Not sure if it is a product line they would expand upon just to say it on the side. Somebody will do it though, I know the thought is out there.

Actually, PMAG could host a remanufacturing event where Colorado residents bring their 556 PMAGs to the MAGPUL facility to get them converted to 458 SOCOM. All it would take is 1) a new single-stack follower (keep your old follower), and 2) a quick press with a "branding iron" to stamp "458 SOCOM" and "10 Rounds" over the old markings. They could set up a sort of assembly line in the parking lot - table 1: disassembly and inspection, table 2: follower replacement , table 3: branding...

Now the bad news. The law says a magazine is banned if it is "designed to be readily convertible to hold more than 15 rounds". Not sure if the 458 conversion would pass -- just replace the follower and its a perfectly functional illegal-capacity magazine regardless of what it says on the outside.

From what is sounds like with their company structure "others" do the actual molding they only assemble and ship. Considering the PMAGs only say 5.56x45 on the side and the time date of manufacture gets changed every time they make a new batch would give me the impression it is not that "difficult" but I am not in my field here.

US1911, the purpose of not changing anything other than "marketing from 5.56x45 to 458 SOCOM 10 rd" is that changing the follower would defeat the "subversive" purpose of what I was saying. :)

The Law is vague and unenforceable by honest law enforcement. Painting a side of a USGI mag 10rd 458 and showing the officer it only has 10 rounds in it could be legit if produced into court and waste taxpayer dollars trying to prosecute it. What do I know, I am just an average joe who thinks outside the shrinking box.

Agreed! SOCOM 458 mags and 556 mags are one and the same by design with no mods required. Adding a centered single-stack follower just makes it unable to hold a 556 round. Put one in, and it spits right back out at you. No arguments here I agree with your point...

I still like the thought of a MAGPUL event where CO residents' mags are "rebranded" over the original markings, or maybe beside them. Keep everything else the same -- no new follower.

My 30 round magazines aren't illegal now, simply dealing with some legislators that think they are.
