View Full Version : Sales of firearms safes

Sales of firearms safes should be starting to climb pretty soon. With the recent shootings, the lawful owners of some of the firearms used in some "mass killings" may soon be held responsible even though they did not authorize their kids or anyone else to "borrow" their guns. Here is something old Feinstein has in her proposed "Assault Weapons Ban" and although it did not recently pass, it will be brought up again and again.
"Imposing a safe storage requirement for grandfathered firearms, to keep them away from prohibited persons".
The imposition is that owners will be responsible for their weapons even if someone steals, borrows them.
With this crap on the horizon, I am kinda surprised that there has been no sensible response to my ad in the Trading Post where I listed a 15 gun safe for sale in the Parts and Accessories section. This post is not meant to be a sales pitch, just thought I'd mention the possibility really needing safe storage - again.[blaster]
I think alot of people look at it as "The lock on my front door is my safe"
I do not agree with any law mandating the ownership of a safe. However.....I don't trust my fellow man enough to forego owning one myself.

If you werent all the way down south I wouldve bought your damn safe already....
The term "permissive use" may start becoming used more often outside of auto claims.

Home Depot has great prices on safes.
Most are available to order online and shipping is either free to your house, or to the store and they deliver for like 79 dollars if you don't have a truck.

You can still order safes from Costco online.
Wish I had seen that Winchester HBAR linked to when I was safe shopping a month ago.
Costco did have a good deal on a Cannon safe. Didn't end up going for it, partly because I've seen nothing but bad reviews about their customer service, but it sold out online pretty quickly. I also checked Lowe's and Home Depot. Didn't care for the selection HD has. Lowes has a better selection, but nothing in stock at the time, even for ordering online...
to be honest , i look at your safe and think $150 stack-on quality. maybe thats why it hasnt sold.
realistic priced $600 ish safe

what yours looks like
Actually the one pictured here is a decent safe. One of my safes is this one and its an OK fire rating with 1.25" locking bolts where most residential safes are only 1"

Got mine off of walmart.com last year. $0.99 delivery charge. Guy helped me get it into garage, off of crate and unwrapped.
Does the group have a safe forum?? I need some help deciding.
Depending on what you're looking for, Bill & Family @ "The Safe Place" out of Sparks, NV are good folks and very knowledgeable: http://www.thesafeplace.com/gun-safes/
They have a large inventory, high-volume sellers for most of the major brands, very competitive prices even w/ shipping and the added bonus that not $1 of tax revenue is generated for PR-KO coffers.
YMMV but probably worth a call or e-mail if you have questions.
Man I should really get into the residential game and sell you guys some safes...

Murdoch's in Parker did have a few Liberty Fat Boy's on sale for $800. I didn't have the coin but two of my buddies both bought one. Hell of a deal.

I TRIED to buy local back then... Not so much now.
Not exactly in your direct-AOR, but that is another reason I ended up at "The Safe Place" and recommend them... Nothing available locally I wanted, especially at anything approaching a reasonable price for an upper-end RSC. Wasn't about to drive all over CO searching.
As I recall, the price quotes I received came in @ nearly 2x even w/ shipping and non-negotiable so I opted for out-of-state, no sales tax and I significantly customized for way less $. Still managed to employ some local, real safe movers to lift/install.

Nope, mine is NOT the $150 "stack on" quality that you accuse it of being [hahhah-no] . Kinda amusing that you'd say that with only my photos to be governed by. Oh well, it'll sell eventually - I'm in no hurry.

no, i looked it up on the internet and read all about it when you first posted it. it sounds like everyone who bought one, over paid. you have a "safe" with no fireboard, tiny cross bolts, thin metal, and is worth probably $200. If you were local to the metro area. As it is, I think you safe is probably worth about $150 if the buyer has to travel to get it.
And remember YOU were the one who decided to cross post your for sale item here in the general section. making it fair game.
bottom line... your safe is extremely over priced and you live a long way away. thats why it wont sell. if you dont think so, well keep listing it for that much money and see if you find a sucker to buy it.
Well I do appreciate your taking time to analyze what I had for sale. Guess I'd better promptly remove the ad as I sure do NOT want to attempt to sell something that YOU believe only a sucker would purchase. Again, thanks for your time![Beer]
I recently bought a Liberty from Lowes. I got them to take 10% off and free delivery to my house.
Surfing around Craigslist frequently yields some decent prices on safes, just type "gun safe" into the little search box and there's quite a range.

Well HBARleatherneck, I jumped the gun, removed my ad and AGREED with you and that made two (2) of us wrong. I am sure that you did, in fact, attempt to look up my particular safe on the internet but the Treadlock safes are no longer listed and that company was bought out by the Winchester Safe CO if I got my story right, so you could surely not have found any new Treadlock safes with current pricing. What you did compare mine to was the cheapest of the Stackon safes which sells for around $159, a key lock, weighs 64 pounds and holds 8 long guns. My safe cost me $518 and with shipping was $541 - I did locate the receipt. Weighs around 175+ lbs and holds 15 long guns. Is a combination lock. You can easily see what the Stackon safes look like and prices on web site www.northerntool.com (http://www.northerntool.com). The cheapie that you compared mine to is #23324. I compare mine to #23313 which they are selling for $539. OK, have at it (again).

I bought one about 4 years ago. Very well designed and constructed but the pistol hangers are just fabric pockets with a small piece of Velcro hook tape to hold it up -- not terribly effective. They delivered to my garage and it hasn't given me any trouble in four years (aside from having the replace the battery for the digital combo once).

Liberty customer service is awesome, too, BTW. For anyone looking at the Centurion line, try to get one with a center divider, as some 12 or 18-gun versions don't.
