Honestly I don't believe they should be selling .50BMG rifles to ANY police department ... not even in Texas ... not even my own Sheriff Maketa (a man of the law committed to the rights of the people).

There is absolutely zero legitimate law enforcement use of the .50BMG. Period.

But good for Serbu for standing up for the rest of us at potentially their own expense.

Good for Serbu. :) Maybe NYPD wants to use a 50BMG as a breaching tool ;) or more realistically to stop a drug lord in his armored car.

And in related news, the Tuscon gun shop where Mark Kelly purchased an AR cancels his order!

that's exactly what I was going to say.
Notice the little reference to Barrett's policies in their letter too.

Now I have 2 .50's manufacturers to choose from. woohoo

Just to play devils advocate, I hear the Coast Guard uses 50's on engine blocks for drug interdiction. Maybe that's their intention. Not that those farging bastages need them, good for Serbu.

I had to laugh when I got to this part:

What’s interesting about this is that while Serbu makes a fine firearm and impressive .50 BMG rifles, they’re not a first-tier company in the sniper rifle world and are perhaps best known for their compact Super-Shorty (http://www.serbu.com/top/superShorty.php) shotguns.
Two of the biggest names in sniper rifles, Barrett (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152600613640038&set=a.370014790037.361087.269478890037&type=1) and ArmaLite (http://www.guns.com/2013/02/22/arguing-for-and-against-armalite/), have already stated that they will not sell to the police departments of New York. If the NYPD is calling Serbu, we have to wonder how many other companies have told them to keep walking.

especially with the Serbu 2 weeks (actually two year) delivery time. plus the fact that you cant find any specifics on accuracy on the internet about the serbu 50. which looks like a complete rip off of Chris and Ronnies design.

stopping trucks comes to mind and maybe a hostage situation where a long distance is need for the safety of everyone involved

if they are using a barrett or a serbu to stop people or trucks in America they are wrong. these are not accurate firearms. I know I own one. there is WAY too much chance of collateral damage. Yes they shoot minute of truck. Cops dont need 50bmgs.

if they cant do the job with a lesser caliber, then maybe they should get closer or find a new line of work. parking cars maybe.

Cops dont need 50bmgs. i disagree . cops in largely populated areas should have very limited access . those coastal/border states should have less restriction .
