I bought a new bushmaster carbine xme2s and wanted the hand guard from my other ar on it. First off, the gas block taper pin closest to the reciever was amazingly tight. Then, when I went to swap the low pro from the other barrel so my tube would clear, I noticed the 1/16" misalignment of the taper pin holes. We tried several gas blocks on the barrel and none would fit. Is bushmaster spec different from others? I think I could have installed the gas block if I used a vice to squeeze the holes together, but was unwilling to try. I will be cutting down the gas block that came on the bushy to make a low pro, so I can use it, but...

There is no real "Spec". Gas blocks are match drilled to the particular barrel. Technically when a gas block is to be replaced the barrel assembly is to be replaced as it is considered an "Assembly". Ref-TM9-1005-249-23P
I have replaced hundreds of gas blocks and have NEVER seen one match perfectly with another. I have also discovered through experience that attempting to use a used FSB on a different barrell is an abject waste of time. Low profiling the stock one is the best way if you want to keep a pinned FSB.
