View Full Version : Sitting at a red light... Minding my own business
When some d-bag made a left hand turn into oncoming traffic. Their collision strafed right into my wife's car. Both airbags deployed on us and luckily the boy was safe in his car seat...
The best part, my kid got to ride home in an ambulance, they even turned the sirens on for him.

Glad you're ok. Was he drunk/high?

The paramedics showed up, checked everyone out, then after they noticed how enamored my boy was with their rig, they offered to take him and the old lady to the house (3 blocks). Even did a woop-woop for him.
I think they knew I was gonna be there a while doing paperwork.
Thank you to Arapahoe county fire dept by the way!!! You guys rock.
Glad to hear everyone is OK.
Don't forget that there may be lasting damage. I was hit from behind by a drunk driver going over 90 mph on Santa Fe and I was so happy I didn't die I was just glad to get the car replaced. That was 15 years ago and my neck still hurts.
Glad you're ok. Was he drunk/high?
He said: "Sun was in my eyes"
I was pretty pissed about the whole thing, and when I finally came to.., I yelled out "who was in the brown silverado?!?" And when the guy raised his hand, I glared and flipped him off with the hand I wasn't holding my kid with. Not Christian of me, and kind of regret it... Kind of.

As your wife, th3w01f, the constant fear of fiery death has made quite the impact on our lives. I am the main driver in the family, we cannot drive in the left lane due to potential head-on collisions, and we always avoid driving during prime drunk driving hours. I would have sued for damages if I'd known how this ended up. (I wish I were exaggerating)

"Sun was in my eyes" = on my cellphone being a f'ing jackass. I got rear-ended at a red light behind a line of cars by a dumbass going ~35mph who claimed the sun was in her eyes.

Glad to hear you and your family are ok.
Glad to hear all are OK! Vehicle accidents are freakin' scary. And even if you're not in the actual collison, shit can happen so fast it's mindblowing. Got a few tales myself, thank God I've never really been injured seriously.
My god- would you LOOK at what they did to your car?!
Holy crap. I'm really glad you're okay, and the ambulance drivers knew just how to take your little boy's mind off what could have been a very scary moment.
"The sun was in my eyes-" yeah, I bet it was. Was he driving west? What time did the impact occur? Where was the sun positioned at that time? I'd have a million questions.
I know a very skilled accident investigator, should you or your insurance agent need the name of one. Drop me a PM and I'll give you his contact information.

I frequently will make three right turns around the block to avoid a left turn.
I'm glad you and your family ar OK. This is one case where it's a good thing they don't make them like they used to. Vehicles protect people a lot better now-a-days. And you did your part by useing the safety stuff.
Wow, glad you are okay. Don't sign shit. Check out cwprqinz accident info and the medical deal years down the road.

Dude this sucks, glad you are all OK.
In one week I shit you not, I saw 5 different people do this at 5 different intersections. I have been driving in the city a lot more in past few months but, so it may I just see different things now, but in general people are just dumber on the road.

What intersection is that and what direction were you going?
One word for this morning. 'Sore'
What an inconvenience...
Thanks for all the kind words guys.
Geometry: (intersection of Holly and Arapahoe)
Us - On Holly (NB) waiting to turn into Arapahoe (WB)
DBag - On Arapahoe (WB) Turning onto Holly (SB)
Oncoming traffic - Arapahoe (EB)
All happened around 6:30, so yes, sun was on the horizon.
Just a couple of air bag burns...
Glad you and the fam are relatively ok. ^ Those things can be brutal. My little bro got hit by a bus in a old Geo Metro, the air bag severely burned half of his face. Never fully healed from it.

man you need a bigger vehicle
yeah i know the littler car gets better gas mileage, but there is no replacement for steel and mass
Wax_job- one thing to remember, the other driver, if they have insurance (God, I hope they do)- and you are hurt (even now, you say sore, go get it checked out!) they should have med pay and any injuries sustained from the accident are on them, not you. Good luck, glad everyone is okay (ish).

This is not true. Medpay is a first party coverage. For example, if you have $5,000 of Medpay on your policy, then your injuries will be treated, using YOUR coverage; for up to the $5,000 limit. Anything over the $5,000 can then be covered by the other driver's Bodily Injury Liability coverage. However, you don't just send bills to the other insurance company with the expectation that they will directly pay the bills. They will not settle with you until you are done treating. After you are done, and all the bills have been collected, they will offer you a settlement amount. Medpay is also non-subrogable in Colorado.
Don't let this post freighten you though, as I was just trying to be clear on the difference between Medpay and BI Liability. I would not expect your injuries to come anywhere near $5,000, if that happens to be your Medpay limit. $5,000 Medpay is the most common level of Medpay coverage that I see in Colorado. Glad Everyone is okay.
I know an awesome insurance lawyer that you should probably chat with....PM me if you're interested.
Glad to hear you and the family are pretty much OK!

Oh man do I know that feeling.
I was exiting the freeway in Providence RI to down town and my exit lane is right next to a jersey barrier. On the other side of the barrier is the street I am getting onto. Guy came to the end of the barrier and hung a right in front of me.
Link for pic of intersection.

Here I stand corrected... Shows how little I actually deal with this end of the business. I'm going back to my corner now... [gohome]

Adjusters and agents often end up at ends with each other because even though they are dealing with the same product, where they actually operate is vastly different. "How will this affect my rates?!" "Hell if I know, call your agent."
Damn manjust saw this, I'm glad you and your family are ok!

Why are left turns hard?</p>
"The sun was in my eyes". Same excuse a driver who killed a friend of mine who worked for the Aurora Fire Department said. That battle is still being wagered in court. I understand the sun was on the horizon but I still find that excuse to be lame and hogwash. That's what visors and sun glasses are for. I think most of us here have driven for a long damn time and never hit anyone while driving with the sun in our eyes. I agree with a previous post, jack-hole was probably on his cell phone. Don't feel bad about giving that guy the bird, he probably deserved it. Glad you are just a bit sore and nothing worse. Even more glad your little one is okay. I have been taking light rail into work a lot lately and I find when I do drive on my days off I get even more enraged at the stupidity that clogs our roadways.
My wife worked with a young lady once, she had a young son. Her and her son were very close to her mother. One day her son was out with Grandma for some good times, and they were sitting at a red light chatting. A drunk driver came screeching around the corner from the cross-street on her left and slammed into Grandma's door, killing her instantly. The boy wasn't hurt, but imagine the memory burned into his poor little brain of his last visions of his beloved Grandma. That family was devastated. An innocent life snuffed and a young boy's innocence snatched from him in an instant without warning.

I handle a lot of accidents in that area. Basically from about 92nd to 136th, and Huron to Washington. Nice little Bermuda Rectangle of intersection accidents.
Why are left turns hard?
Short answer- people are stupid. [shithitsfan]
