Even though they are pricey, I probably would be all over one of these if I hadn't just bought a Biolite stove last year.

That's cool as sh*t! I'll have to look into that. I have some solar. Wind generator stuff, but boiling water? Very Cool aka Hot! Thanks!!
i've seen the biolite stove as well, but have been told thermoelectric power is wildly inefficient and in most cases doesn't provide enough juice to charge a smart phone.
Blockhead, does your biolite charge everything you've tried and if so, how's the time frame for a full charge of something we can use for reference?
efficiency is relative, if you're heating the water anyways anything you get extra is just a bonus.
I worry about the power cord melting on the pot.

haha well yeah, thats true. I'm just curious if you'd have to boil the water, and therefore consume fuel of one form or another, for hours, just to get a single digit % charge. If someone were expending fuel simply to charge their phone in an emergency, when they would have been wiser to conserve their fuel for the night to come, it could be a problem.

I've only tried the biolite with my iphone and it charged it fine. Not as fast as an outlet, but once you get the fire stoked it moves the battery bar. It would get monotonous sitting there feeding the fire if you were trying to charge your entire battery, but for getting a basic charge it's no problem at all.

That's a great idea. Icing on the cake if you have to boil water anyways. One also has to consider that if in a situation where this device comes in handy, one wouldn't be on the phone chatting and draining the battery.
Im getting ready to build a box cooker. Lining it w cut down mirrors.
If you want I can save you the frensel lenses out of the next projection tv that gets dumped
