My miniature dachshund is really bored now that we don't have any furniture in my house. How do I keep her entertained? So far, I've put all her toys in a canvas bag and watched her go to town. See video: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?feature=youtube_gdata_player&v=QXrHzvOomfQ&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DQXrHzvOomfQ%26feature%3 Dyoutube_gdata_player

Man that's depressing. I might recommend playing outside for both of you ;)
The suns out. There are parks around. Hell have her go kick the shit out of my pit. He's a big sissy

So because you have a dachshund it is best to challenge the breed. What I mean by that is give activities
that the breed naturally wants to do. Sense dachshunds are part of the scent family of breeds, they naturally want to search for scents. So take a toy or food....hide it then give her the opportunity to find it around your house but not in one location. Like at meal times, put her food in different locations around the house for starters. Dogs want to be challenged we just have to give them the opportunity.
Great post.
Thanks for sharing, cute dog.

Great post.
Shes digging in that bag because I put a treat in a puzzle toy in the bottom. It's fun to get her riled up and then hand her to my wife.
Thats great! My buddy has a Mastiff that chews on center blocks outside when he's board.....he's crack a few! Cute dog though.

Reminds me of mine when she was younger, looks just the same too.
If you really want to keep a dog with 1 inch legs busy, throw some Doritos into 4 feet of snow.
Any vids of her wrapped in french bread with some mustard for effect???.....................[LOL]Luv dem dawgs..
how to entertain dog:
1. go to pet store.
2. buy hamster.
3. buy 12" acrylic ball for hamster to run around house in.
4. let dog chase hamster in 12" acrylic ball all day.
5. return hamster and ball and tell pet store "this just isn't going to work".
6. dog had a blast, hamster cost refunded, everybody happy.

I see one, possibly two problems with that.
1. you've just laced your whole house floor with hamster piss/poo, because the dog scared the %#!* out of it.
2. the hamster might not even survive the heart attack.
Still funny though!

'acrylic ball' (contains all sins, no mess at all)

Ok, so the hamster suffocates. lol
Don't they have little slits in them?

I haven't been allowed to buy one to investigate that. I've wanted to buy one....for a day...for our two dogs for YEARS but the wife veto's it.

Makes me miss my miniature dachshund 'Bob'!
What a holy terror he was!
Almost got grabbed by a golden eagle when we lived in Conifer!

We have three and being food motivated those Doritos are no match. Our oldest is now 17 and although blind now still managed to bring back a dead bird last summer. he was our best mouser.
Our 3. 16, 17 and 424669

Have you ever had any health problems with your dachshund? I know they can have hip problems.

She got a cold once. We're pretty careful about her back. She's still kinda young-ish (4.5 yrs old).
Kibble + slingshot = her nose works great!

Keep them lean and they will be fine.
They will eat themselves to death if you let them.
Putting on the weight is usually what causes all the problems.
Oh... And gotta be careful with their little mis-shapen front legs, prone to fractures. Don't want to let them jump on to slippery surfaces like a linoleum floor.

^^^^^ This. Our two got a little large back when. I will just say that you HAVE to work at it or you will have a broke one. We almost lost one of them due to this. had an issue and walked into the vet and was paralyzed after. 3 months of working with him got him back but not without issues.
The sad but almost funny thing is when someone makes a mistake and forgets something. You come home and there is a Football in front of you. They will eat until they almost blow up.

How did you train her to disappear into the camera and then reappear out of it? That's amazing!

I taped my phone to a box then threw a treat over the box. It's a bankers box sized thing, and she cleared it no problems. She weighs in at just over 10lbs. And she's very food motivated.
Unlike a lot of Dachshunds, she's not snappy, bitey, or yappy. She doesn't howl, even though I've tried to get her to.
