Man I just installed a new magpul mil spec butt stock replacing the factory stock on my bushmaster. I'm ALMOST positive I did it right. It is lined up and no extra parts. LoL. I used the factory buffer and spring. Now I can't pull my charging handle back but an inch or two. Feeling stupid about now. Anyone know what I did wrong. Phillip

What stock did you install? Did you replace the buffer tube?
check to make sure the detent that holds back the buffer is all the way down, with just the little nub sticking up.
Did you buy the buttstock to fit a mil-spec or commercial buffer tube? They make 2 sizes.
Rifle buffer in carbine tube?

Is the buffer tube shorter
Re-read the OP again, my bad. Sounds like an internal problem that shouldn't be related to the buttstock.
Kinked spring? Have you disassembled and reassembled?
Ok, was the factory stock a2?

Yes it was an A2
Rifle buffer in carbine stock
Yes it was an A2
if you put a rifle buffer in that carbine tube that is your prob.

If it was an A2, you need to get a different buffer like this: http://palmettostatearmory.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/k/p/kpc_0437.jpg
is you buffer around 3 inches long, or more like 5-6?
you need the one on the right, if it looks like the one on the left that is your prob.

Ok, so it sounds like you started with the one on the left, but replaced the tube and with one like in the middle while using the spring and the buffer from the one on the left. Correct?

If so you just need a carbine spring and buffer

Yeah, what car-15 said.
ETA: Are the springs different, too? Or just the buffers?
I did replace the buffer tube....
That helps to know.

As mentioned, you need a carbine buffer. Not mentioned, you also need a carbine buffer spring too.
I think we just found your custom title : "Buffer Boy".........[ROFL1]
