I finally found a way, I am satisfied with, marking the contents of my ammo cans. I use to use tags. They worked OK. I was interested in adhesive labels, but wasn't able to get them to stick well to the paint on the ammo cans. I'm sure there are some labels out there that would stick, but I want them to come off easily not destroying the paint.
I needed something "permanent", but could be removed easily. I found it, paint markers and lacquer thinner!

I had some paint markers for metal work and thought it's probably lacquer. If so, it would hold up nice and come off easy with solvent. I took the chance and gave it a try. Perfect!

I got the paint markers in the welding section of Murdoc's. Jax and other stores with a welding section should have them.
Just write on the can. Once you want it removed, wipe it off with lacquer thinner. That simple.
Here's the ammo stash all organized.

The 3 unmarked cans are empty and will be filled when their ammo becomes available for a reasonable cost.
The idea is to have at least 3 cans stockpiled and 1 can shooting for each caliber I shoot. Once the shooting ammo is gone, the oldest stockpiled can becomes shooting. Then get another can's worth of ammo to stockpile. This way I can go a few years without access to more ammo. And the oldest gets shot first.
I knew an ammo shortage was on the horizon. I knew it because there's always one. The idea is to stockpile when available and cheap.
