Many years ago, I acquired this UZI parts gun. I'd now like to build it up. But have alot of questions.

I'm not familiar at all with UZIs. I want to make sure that I put all the right parts on it to ensure it conforms to US Laws.

While I consider myself mechanically inclined and have rebuilt many motorcycle engines. I consider this more like "watch-making" requiring a different skill and depending on cost, may take it to a gunsmith.

I've seen upper receivers for sale that need to be welded and some already all welded up and just need to be finished. Again, not sure what to do here.

So, I have a bunch of questions :)

1) If I have no welding skills, I see that complete receivers going for around 300.00 bucks. Would it be worth buying that and do the finish? I ask as I've seen Vector UZIs going for 600-700 bucks. This UZI has the writing on it in Hebrew for the "fire control".

2) To make it conform to US laws, if I buy or build the receiver from US components is that it?

3) Is it as simple as buying the upper receiver and just bolting it all up?

4) Can anyone recommend a place where I can buy parts? Its missing a few things

5) Should I just sell it and look for a finished Vector Arms one if I don't have the skill to finish this myself?

6) Is there a local gunsmith that can help me with this? Any idea what it might cost to have a gunsmith finish this?

Thanks for any help

1. unless you've got press jigs or pre-formed flats and good welding skills, you should buy a complete semi receiver.

2. No, you need to keep the countable, foreign parts on the completed firearm to 10 or fewer. A US-made receiver is only one of the countable parts. Check out the build forums over at uzitalk.com for a more complete reference on parts count and US compliance part sources.

3. I believe you've got to rivet or weld at least the barrel trunion in place if it's not already a complete receiver. see uzitalk.com for more specific answers

4. Vector arms was a source for all parts, all made in the US - but they're in the process of shutting down and closing the business. Sarco Inc has surplus uzi parts, but they won't be a source of US compliance parts.

5. selling the parts kit and buying a finished gun from vector or someone else would be better than never building the parts kit

6. I'm a local smith, but not an Uzi specialist, so I couldn't even hazard a realistic guess. I'd look first at uzitalk.com
