View Full Version : burying your guns
besides pvc pipe. what other ways have you heard of people burying their guns. is it safe to bury a rifle, with ammo, and mags in the same container? i would think it would be ok. let me know your imput there. and how far does a average metal detector go down? is there something you can cover your container with to block the detector?

Well..... As has been noted on another forum. Yes it is safe to bury all together. The trick is density and volume. By that I mean if they want to they will find it unless it is real far down.
Something in the middle of nowhere will make someone dig with a detector. Now lets say you have a barn and on the side of the barn is where your item is. now joe snuffy comes along and his detector goes off and all he finds is a lifter a foot down. another hit a connecting rod, another rod. Do you see where he will give up finding a bunch of junk parts? Does not have to be parts it can be anything you like. The trick is to make someone move to another area because there is nothing but junk.........
Just a thought.

Not if they are somewhere you plan to have to go someday. A couple of years ago $120 would have put an SKS in cosmo, some stripper clips and 500 rds of ammo in the ground.

When it comes time to bury your firearms, it has come time to use them. .

yes, and in the mean time thay have been bulldozed over for a new parking lot. but at least anyone with a metal detector will move on, too much hassle to dig up.

The sum of my thoughts...
God forbid that time comes, but mine will be laid down "hot and smokin' to the end"! [Rant1]
OK, in reality burying something is a recipe for disaster with inevitable decay and brutal natural occurring things in CO will screw you (like rocks moving)... If serious, I'd highly recommend checking out the long-term storage caves in MO.
In California, I think you have to bury the guns and ammo in separate containers . . .

I've actually read an article about a guy who buried some go to guns and ammo outside of Las Vegas. He had a job transfer or something like that and when he returned to get his cache the entire area had been devoloped into a sub division of homes and apparently there was no way he was ever going to locate them and get them back. True or false it's food for thought ! [Beer]
You will never need to bury your guns, Obama is pro gun just ask him

[ROFL1] And I don't think your allowed to bury mags that hold more than 20 rds.
so i may be the only one thats paranoid. just thinking of nice things like martial law. im in denver so its more likely to happen there than the rest of the state. if they ever did raid houses i like to have some backups that they didnt get. am i the only one thinking this?

If the government ever decided to undertake a nation wide gun confiscation, they'd run out of Agents/SWAT-Soldiers/Cops within the first day. There's 80 million gun owners in this country. Even if only a mere Million decided to fight back, that's a nation wide, unorganized, guerrilla army against a government with agents numbering in the thousands.
They'll just continue to do what is effective, the drop in the bucket scenario. The first federal offense against the second amendment began all the way back in 1934 with the National Firearms Act - just look where we are today. . .

I think th OP's question is more suited for a forum such as Frugals.

And that being the case I'd be willing to bet at least half those that own are better shots than the "Agents/SWAT-Soldiers/Cops". maybe not tactics but plain ole shot placement.

IF that were to happen you'd be so far gone in a cell nobody would ever find your guns. they start kicking in doors 'they" (who are they?) would have to do it while @ work or the middle of the night.
even with the MSM's gun bias the long range ramifications of blatent confiscation would not sit well with 49% of the American public. that number would rise as they went after the bookstore owners.

I'll take that bet! Maybe 20 years ago you might be right.
But we will never find out.
1) It will not happen.
2) Although this does not represent an official opinion from the military, I have asked many of the soldiers that I serve with, "if ordered, would they participate in a disarmament of American citizens?" The reply was an overwhelming no. They believe that such an order would be unlawful and unconstitutional and in violation of their oath.
3) Oh, and it just won't happen.
Go and google Gecko45 and you will understand. OR MAkk Ninja either works.

Well......
Maybe I missed something. I see Hasher and COS and others' replies....
Sad truth is, is that it already has happened. Does nobody know or remember what happened with Katrina? Does nobody know what NORTHCOM is doing right now?
Does nobody know about that town (can't remember where) that is currently uinder martial law?
Hmmm....
Like I said, maybe I missed something.
I am no mall ninja. Just a simple mountain boy that loves his country and his freedom and would fight for it. I see a lot of others saying the same thing, but when it happens, I know from personal experience that most will puss out.
Nor am I trying to start a flame or be derogatory to anyone. It is just the simple truth that martial law has been and is in effect in this country and will be again. And most who act all tough and patriotic will suck up and turn over their guns just like the folks in Louisiana did.
And jim-they did it in the middle of the day, as well as night and morning and evenings. They also did illegal searches and confiscations of vehicles and watercraft.

I was joking I know that the US Gov doesn't respect any of our rights. They seem to think that they can issue and take away.
Ive never been wrong as you watch the market crash and the global economy. I've been canning and storing. Good Luck, or in the North American Union, Buena suerte! Open your eyes and you can see Your country is not yours any more. Congress added pork to the bail out bill to make sure you knew it.

Just so I am clear on what I was saying when I said "it will not happen". What I meant by that statement is that I don't think we will have a day of Universal Disarmament of the American public.
I am shocked over what happened during Hurricane Katrina. I like to think that the majority of the people that had guns just smiled politely at the officers and said they had no guns in their home. That is still not the right answer, as an American, I should not have anyone ever ask me to surrender my arms.
You may have to excuse some of my statements that I make, since I wear a hat made out of Kevlar and not tinfoil.
