View Full Version : Craigslist score!
Found this today on Craigslist for $10. Gen-u-wine WWII .30 cal. ammo can. The gasket's gone, but that's no biggie. It's in great shape, not badly rusted and no dents. Score!
The seller says he's a member here, but inactive. Hasn't been on in years. I told him to come back. He was asking about .223 ammo for his two AR's, I told him about the group buys here.

I have a standing offer of $20 for it. Might even work out a trade deal for some IMR4895. [Awesom]
Let's see.....I have a bunch of WWII ammo of various kinds, and a bunch of .30 cal. MG links.....

Yeah, I have two more. Another M1 and an M2, which has a hinged lid instead of a slotted one like this. The CMP has shipped a lot of surplus ammo in cans like these, God only knows where they came from and where they've been. Some of them have a bracket on the can to mount onto an M1919 machinegun, like on a vehicle mounted pintle, those cans are worth some bucks.
I know a coworker of mine lurks around here, and another one is a member, but hasn't posted in quite some time.

Off topic but, if you know someone that can identify old military ammo cans/containers I have something that needs identified. Let me know.
Take a look at the pictures in this thread.

Nice score rondog.
I have a shotgun with that logo seen on the 3rd pic beneath where it says "Crown".

I have no idea, but since it's so heavy and heavy-duty, I'd guess it's a case for some kind of sensitive, important equipment. It's already heavy as hell, so I doubt it would have really heavy contents too, or nobody could move it. If you really gotta know, Google a guy named Bill Ricca, he seems to be a specialist and dealer in all kinds of military surplus.
Nice score rondog.

Whoa, I just read this closer. That "logo" is called a "flaming bomb", and is an ordnance acceptance stamp. What kind of shotgun is it? It must be a military shotgun, maybe WWII vintage or earlier. Bring photos!

Are these cans worth a lot or something? I have one basically identical to OP's that I was just given by my step father a few years back. Just use it to store some cleaning patches/rod tips/solvents. Thought it was just like any other ammo can.
When I saw the title, I thought the OP was letting us in on the secret to success in one's love life......

I value them because I collect WWII militaria. I wouldn't say they're worth "a lot", I was just thrilled to get one in such good condition for $10.
