What gets it off off ARs just picked up a BM bullpup covered in it.

I thought that's what machine guns did, spray pain. ;)

Does it matter if the underlying phosphate finish is damaged? Would it make sense to strip everything down to the bare metal by sand blasting or something? I'll be curious to hear an answer on this one.

Break cleaner and mineral spirits are what I've used. Break Cleaner works better.
