Hey all, just dropping in to say "hi". I found this forum while hunting around for AR15 info. I'm in the market for my first, and my head is about to explode as a result of all the information available. This is a good example of when the internet is NOT your best friend.

Anyway - I am a pretty recreational shooter, with only 2 firearms under my belt: a Ruger .357 and a Glock 19. However, the recent events unfolding in our political arena, and the fact that we will likely have our first full-fledged socialist in the White House come Nov. 4, have motivated me to add an AR to my collection. I just want to make an informed and educated purchase, and figured this would be a good place to start.
Anyone wanna help an AR newbie out? :)

I'm sure we can help you out.
what would be the primary use(s) of the AR and how much you got to spend?

Thanks 7idl!
As for the AR, it's going to be a general purpose/utility/defense arm. I would say (and hope) that 99% of the useage will be in the mountains targeting and plinking. I hope that other 1% isn't necessary. On the modification side of things, I am an engineer, and tweaking with my toys is my nature. So in that sense, I don't think a "bare bones" model will suit me. Eventually I'd like to add optics, probably a front light, and have options available with respect to stock, etc. It's just starting OUT with something that is flexible/cost effective is my issue, as the options seem endless.
I'm hoping to snag a decent AR for no more than $1,200 OTD. That's a pretty firm $1,200, with $1,100 being more ideal.
Welcome to the forums!
Have you been to Jensen's in Loveland? That would be a fantastic start for your AR needs. I got my first AR from there (RRA Midlength, quad rail, flat top, plenty of upgrade ability) that i absolutely love! They have nice AR's there, many of which will fit your price range.
Stick around, enjoy the show, and once again, welcome!

Welcome to the forum.
One of the nice (not nice?) things about ARs, is that the list of toys for it,
goes on and on and on and...............

I have been thinking about Jensen after reading their rave reviews, and since my last visit to Green Mountain was less than stellar. I'm just worrelied that they will be too busy on a Saturday to help out a total newb to ARs. What are your thoughts?

Welcome Dude.
A lot of folks here love to build their own AR's from different parts to get their preferred setup, but if you're looking to hit the ground running, and you're a Lefty, I can strongly recommend Stag Arms as the AR of choice.

I am new to the AR world too, but can not wait to get started. Picking up my new RRA with some goodies and a chrome lined barrel for a grand at 5280 on Sunday. Did a lot of shopping and this seemed like a killer price. The distributors are out of inventory thanks to the Dems, so make your move if you want one soon. Now I just need to meet up with some folks to shoot.
