I posted in the New Member thread expressing my interest in the AR format. However, after some more reading, I've been greatly interested in the Sig556. Has anyone here shot one? Can you compare to the AR? And if you have to choose one over the other, which one would you take, and why?

AR15 piston driven
AR. Gas or piston. No matter unless you are running a can.

AR-15. the Sig is nice but I can't mount a 203 on it. I think
AR. Parts and accessories are ubiquitous.
i'm going to go against the grain here, I have 8 ar's and 1 556 but I do prefer the 556 sometimes, reason being it runs cooler, and has to be cleaned less often, and is much easier, and the piston system is by design more reliable, but the ar is lighter, and a lot cheaper.

would like a 556, but cant justify 1500 for a piston AR, when i can go way cheaper for an equally good gun.

Buy an AR-15 of your choice, then send it into PWS:

for a piston upgrade. In the end, you'll be at the same price as a Sig 556, but your options for aftermarket accessories will be endless and overshadow anything the Sig offers. .

I considered the same thing at one time...AR or SIG556?
The Sig does offer the option of a folding stock, something the AR doesn't.
Now that the SIG accepts standard AR mags, has integrated BUIS (although cheap) and is a "SIG" afterall, it's not a bad choice.
But in the end, I have more familiarity with the AR platform and chose an LWRC (piston AR) over the SIG.
I may still pickup a SIG 556 SWAT in FDE if that dang Masada (Bushmaster ACR) doesn't make it to market anytime soon.
