View Full Version : What to do with all the firearms?
Ok, here is a hypothetical question just for fun. Play along.
So, the world as we know it has taken a turn for the worse. You are forced to leave you home on foot and head out. (I know some of you have bug out vehicles but just play along. Pretend it won't start or something.) Let's assume you own a multitude of firearms. Obviously you probably aren't going to be able to take them all with you. So, you grab your chosen couple of weapons, some basic survival gear, and off you go.
Now, here is the question...
What do you do with the firearms and ammunition you are forced to leave behind?
Do you leave the safe open so that those less fortunate than yourself might stumble across them and be able to use them?
Do you destroy them so that hey don't end up in the hands of evil doers?
Do you secure them or hide them in case you ever need to come back and retrieve them?

Hide them or give to friends.

Boy if I had any guns I would phone the nearest authority figure and demand they come get them.

Come on now... I said "play along".
Just pretend you own some guns and the nearest authority figure has no interest in taking them from you.

Bury em in a waterproof container. Same with excess ammo.

Hide and retrieve if needed. Maybe throw a few twinkies in there also....

Buried in the backyard until retrieval at a later date.

Secure them. If someone is "less forunate" doesn't have a gun they probably voted for Broncobama. So fuck em. They can starve and get eaten by zombies.

No one gets left behind. The few that i have are over the shoulder or in tow. Since the wife's will be another 3 oz lighter an 4" shorter, she can carry 2.
Hide what's left behind and plan on coming back at a later date to retrieve them.
Secure the guns in the safe. Hide the bolts in a different place.

Between the lady and myself, we can carry what we've got.
I just reread that and now I'm depressed.
If I have to leave them, it is D (it is always D by the way). Hide them. Either I come back and get them or someone smarter or luckier than me finds them and gets them.

I'm right there with you buddy.

Interesting. Kinda like the idea.
I was gonna say lock the safe and come back at a later/safer time.
But I kinda like separating them like you said.
Nothing stays behind...Each member of our group has a task.

I too can carry all that I have, but not all the ammo, but that's why I have a plan not to be walking. Granted, I would have a hell of a time carrying them with ammo, food, water, gear.

Don't think just firearms what about other supplies that might come in handy later. My plan would be to bury as much as possible in different spots around the property. Then take as much as I could physically carry for a couple of miles then bury another cache and leave with what I know I could physically manage to survive with and carry.

Love the diet cokes...
Do you think anyone would take a second look at a fresh mound of dirt on the property? Depending on how bad things were, they might just think it was a body.

Good point Irving. Either camouflage it or mark it with a cross

Near landmarks and go over the area with some branches, then throw the one item no one wants to dig or walk through, Animal feces of your choice.
Hide and retrieve. Might take the firing pins with me

Not planning on leaving. If I am forced to do so, I am likely not coming back, so anything I cannot bring is forfeit. If I have time, distribute to neighbors/friends to prevent them landing in the wrong hands. If time is very limited, leave them in a spot where I can tell a trusted person to get them and distribute. If there is a possibility of being disappeared against my will, I would prepare by letting someone I have confidence in know where and what, so that if I suddenly come up missing, they know where to go, secure what they find and distribute as appropriate.
My weapons are things. I can find/acquire more things if necessary. There is no reason for things to be buried when they can be doing someone some good.
I would not be traveling on foot alone you know. I'd ensure every member of my party had at least 1 firearm, preferably both a pistol and long gun. If that meant giving guns to friends, family, and neighbors who I've grown to trust, then no problem. If for some strange reason I didn't have enough trustworthy people around me to share my guns with, then I'd just leave them locked in the safe in my basement or maybe bury a few caches in memorable locations in case I'm ever back home and need them again. But generally speaking, I'd rather not leave them behind and would definitely do my best to not allow them to fall in to the hands of unknown people.

IF, and I repeat, IF I owned any guns, probably hide them in case I could come back for them.

I learned a lot from 'The Walking Dead' and it's pretty factual since it's on AMC. So, I'd find a way to take as many with me as possible. I'd never want to be trapped in a tank in the middle of a street with a bunch of zombies (or cannibals in this case) outside wanting to eat my innards.
Ima gonna freeze that damn lake that swallers all me guns an boats. Then I'm gonna get a big ol' tractor and pull the lake behin' me an as it thaws I'll have me guns an boat an when it melts I'll have a new damn lake to swaller my guns an boat agin.

I wouldn't mind being inside a tank with zombies outside. Since I was a tanker I know how to drive and shoot them (even got to drive a Chinese T55 once). Zombies would not be able to get in with all the hatches closed and they would make good 'track grease'.

my first thought is hide em for the sake of playing along... hopefully you can stay relatively close. also, my main goal would be finding transportation, so maybe hide em, find a truck, and go back and get em?
Things would have to be pretty desperate for me to walk out on foot since I live at 9,000ft on five acres with few neighbors and 10 vehicles including all the provisions and resources to stay up there for years. I am guessing that I would be trading things with my neighbors anyway. I would likely hide/store provisions because I will leave the house including hunting, etc; I would only pull what I need out of storage as I use it. If things were so desperate that I needed to leave on foot with a BOB, I probably wouldn't give a shit about what I was leaving behind.
(IF) I owned a firearm, ALLEGEDLY THEY would have been bugged out/hidden prior...
But, since we're playin.... the 'Ugly Black', Henry .22 and Rem 870 will be 1st out
I'd cry for 6 months if I HAD to leave the other ladies....
(I don't wanna play this game no-mo...)
