God love our buddies in blue, but 14-17 minute response time to assaults and kidnappings!!!

I know DeGette had talked about DPDs excellent response time and I thought 3-5 minutes was too slow but 15 minutes is incredible!!!

http://denver.cbslocal.com/2012/12/05/denver-police-response-time-slowing-chief-calls-it-alarming/

Not a new news story, but I thought relevant because of DeGette's recent comments.

The police are only minutes away when seconds count.

Only takes a few seconds to retrieve a gun, aim it, and fire it.

That's exactly why the LEOs that I know are comforted knowing that my husband and I carry. They know they can't usually get to a situation as it happens, no matter how hard they try. And to be perfectly honest, we go shooting far more often then our friends do.

..... we shoot far more than they do... But that just includes our friends.....

Maybe that's why we don't have many friends [LOL]

Well, last year one of my rental units was broken in by this scumbag/meth head ex-tenant. I called 911 and informed them the situation including that I was armed. DPD showed up 47 min later - told me he was by himself in that district that particular moment. He was cool though, didn't ask to see my ID nor asked anything about my gun.. Simply told me to wait while he cleared the house (we told him, the dumbass was probably gone already by then). Anyhow, 47 min on possible 'armed contact' still sucks!! We chatted afterward, apparently he arrested the same tenant in the same address few months back for stolen goods & vehicle. He mentioned how overwhelmed they are on certain night. Best of all, he was very supportive of 2A. I wonder if he ever joint this site as I mentioned it.

I mainly shoot 3-gun/rifle stuff, but I'm surprised, outside of Pueblo, how few cops I meet at shooting comps? Maybe more show up at IDPA/USPSA pistol shoots (which I don't go to much).

I was watching some internet video about the rich wanting tax cuts and the 99% was asking if the 1% would forgo govt services... with response times like these you had better plan on being your own defense....

Depends on time and location and district.
Usually, response time gets much faster after 10pm weekdays. (from my experience of calling 911)

but if they ban all guns then everyone would be safe

Maybe there are too busy handing out summons to appear tickets to kids riding around at night with no lights on their BMX bikes.....After all, answering 911 calls generate no revenue.................

DPD times run an average of 20-30 minutes. So do most larger urban area LE's Weld Cty sheriff, GFL too few for to large an area, like the CSP. Windsor pretty good response time, depending on the call. Here we had an unwanted visitor an they hit both sides of the block within 3 minutes. They also know our area and the people who live in it;)

5-pionts response time
domestic = 1/2 hr
hit and run = 1 hr
b&e = 2 hrs
daytime gun battle = 2 1/2 hrs
night time gun battle = 4 1/2 hrs
drive by = 9 1/2 hrs

15min, you're lucky. I remember braking up a fight where 3 guys crushed a kids face and it took westy 30min to get there and the 3 goons stuck around to talk trash to a while. Its frustrating how these dumbass politicians and other feel good groups believe you should rely on the police to rescue you

The police don't have the street presence they need because our "leadership" has determined that those monies are best spent on food and shelter for illegals and welfare scum.

Police are for investigation not prevention.

That and I blame the unions.

So glad I don't live in Denver and try not to go there often... "911, what's your emergency?" "Help! I'm being raped, I'm at 16th and Court." "Try and stay on the line, the police will be there about 15min after your body has gone cold." [facepalm]
Meanwhile, in Evergreen, you report something, especially at a bar (someone got into a fight and the bartender called to ask JCSO to show up) and deputies are there within about 90 seconds or so.

Meh, we come as soon as we can. We're dangerously understaffed, and response times have gone through the roof. Property crimes can take hours for a response. Violent crimes take priority, but even those aren't guaranteed an immediate response. Shootings and stabbings in-progress will get the quickest response, as well as domestic violence. Beyond that, it's a crap shoot. Citizens would go apeshit if they knew just how massive the call load is, how few cops there are to respond to them, and how retardedly inefficient and ineffective our policies/procedures make us. We're doing as much as we can given our limitations.

Probably our union's fault...

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd never blame the individual cop.
I've never worked in LE, but I was an EMT in college (in a bigger midwestern city). You're never in the right place.
You go code-3 and it is a new address every time and oops! I forgot, no viaduct on this main artery so I need another place to cross the river.
4-7 minutes was the goal, in certain parts of town, even if you "staged" (drove to the area when expecting a call), you could sometimes miss it.

That said, the one time I requested them to "send a tac unit" - I was impressed as hell with the response time and show of force from our local PD.
I got yelled at for it later, but I've always filed that little phrase in the back of my mind for later.

I don't think DPD is too bad with response times when called....

but there is never one around when you need em ! ( this is a joke.. sorta... )

It did take awhile for an officer to show up when my motorcycle was stolen.. but I had been outta town for three days already and no clue when it was taken so not like it was in a rush to catch the guy....

Like Mr. Lebowski said, I don't blame individual cops, I blame mostly politicians for creating crime rich circumstances (like gun free zones and the like), society for creating these criminals, parents for failing to raise their kids right, democrats for not supporting a strong family unit, the drug war for sending fathers, brothers and sons away to prison for non violent crimes, and a whole host of things that are responsible for the insane call load our various PD and SD have to deal with constantly. I don't know how you guys do it, but I know I'd rather be a deputy in a small town like Evergreen, that a patrol officer in a city like Denver. My hat's off to guys like you. [Beer]

What is the de-facto ratio of police vs population anyhow? Up here were around 1.0003 to 1000.

Lets not forget how many people dial 911, for non-life threatening calls. If those were eliminated you would see a faster response time. Any call could be your last, especially when responding to a DV..

Thankfully those are few and far between up here, but a friend's wife used to work as a dispatcher in Golden and she said some people will call 911 for the most insane things. "Hello, 911, my daughter sneezed! Can you send an ambulance?" [Bang]

People often mistake long response times to lazy cops. While that may be the case sometimes it is rarely so. I once had to call Denver PD for a mutual aid type of deal. Basically it was a DV that happened in Denver but they were reporting it in another jurisdiction. Denver PD told me to that it would likely be hours before they could come and take the report even though I told them I had to wait with the "victim" (Our policy mandated that I wait with them). Safe to say it took two hours for DPD to arrive and I had to sit there and listen to the same story about her husband being the Devil 50 times. [off-yourself] So even with another cop waiting there for them to respond it took over two hours. They stay really busy over there.

At least you got someone, I used to run a program at Laradon which is there by Grizzly rose. Horrible area, during a training in-service day some one broke into my vehicle in broad daylight stealing everything they could grab.

Called Denver PD.

"Is there blood anywhere?"

NO

"Any items that are not yours in the vehicle like a hat, gloves, tools, etc?"

NO

"Anyone's life in danger, was there a firearm that was stolen?"

NO, & NO

"It is not a critical incident, go on line and fill out a report and an officer will be in touch if needed. You might want to check out the local pawn shops."

HUH? Filled out the online report Oct 2010, never heard anything.......................................
