Newish(March 2012) to the state and while I've got a book about MTBing the Front Range and I've found some other stuff online I'd like more up-to-date info and recommendations from anyone at this site who also enjoys to bomb down a hill and questions their sanity on the way back up.

It's about that time of year so any and all recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Go to mtbr.com - then the Colorado section - then ask "What is the best tire for shuttling Apex?" Then sit back and watch the laughs. [ROFL1][shithitsfan]

In seriousness (well, I do hope you do that) - Green Mtn is great for starters, North Table and White Ranch are fun too. Centennial cone is a really fun ride, too - but I think it is every other day with hikers. :)

Edit: While I think about it, Buff Creek is really fun if you have the time. You can spend the day. Meyer Ranch in Conifer is pretty cool but not long enough. Good for a beginner, though. :)
Editx2: I should also put the disclaimer that I'm all about the uphill and hate the down, personally.

Got a free weekend? Head to Moab before it gets too warm.

For a fairly epic all day ride that will include a little bit of everything take a look at the Monarch Crest trail.

.

You need to make sure you add that your current tires were a little squirrelly at 35 MPH, and can't the Freds ride somewhere else?"

MTBR - like bees to honey. :)

Centennial Cone is every other day on the weekends, odd numbered weekend days are for hikers, even numbered weekend days are for mountain biking, M-F is for everyone. I was looking at the calendar and August 31st falls on a Saturday, September 1st falls on a Sunday so no mountain biking either of those 2 days, but Labor Day is for everyone.

Buff Creek is fun but for the same drive time I can go to the real mountains and ride at 10K+.

Monarch Crest is a classic. Def not local to you, however.

Buffalo Creek or Green World at Winter Park when the snow melts and it opens up.

Want technical and tough, Chimney Gulch trail by School of Mines. Coming down is a blast! Up, not so much, but definitely worth it.

West Magnolia outside of Nederland if you like rolling single track, Hall Ranch and Heil Ranch for up and down rides, Betasso for a fast/fun afterwork ride.

Captain Jacks out of Colorado Springs is fun but get there before the motorcycles do. Hidden mesa out of parker seem to be where i go most offen after work. Here is a good list to look over http://trails.mtbr.com/cat/united-states-trails/trails-colorado/front-range/pls_5844crx.aspx

This one is a beast. I like the middle part (from partway up lariat loop to windy saddle), but the crazy thing is, you can actually trail RUN it faster than RIDE it up.

Nobody threw in Mount Falcon, Liar of the Bear, all good rides. Many, many options.

Blackjack at Buff Creek:

Realize, I'm not man enough. There are plenty of vids of Buff Creek of people far more impressive than me.

My personal favorite if you make it down to Co Springs-Palmer Park

Those are great videos man, they really help determine if the trail is something I want to attempt(yep doing those for sure). What tires are you using? Right now I've got these (http://www.conti-online.com/generator/www/de/en/continental/bicycle/themes/mtb/cc_marathon/Race%20King/raceking_en.html)tires with not much tread on them but I'd like something that grips rocks better and I wouldn't mind something a bit wider.

Various Contis over the years. Need replacement!!! I go for as big as I can, run lower pressures and run lots of Stans!! Especially for Pueblo. You'll do a lot of walking if you don't have some goo in there.

Going farther south than you might be looking for but here is a small bit of Pueblo Reservoir:

Maxxis Minions for the win. Ghetto tubeless works very well out here. +1 for Moab this time of year. What type of trails are you looking for?

I am a big fan of Deer Creek Trail. Dont know what its real name is. Its a miserable ride up, coming down is fun. But once you get to the top its beautiful. Ive done it once. Tried many other times.

yes. The one on the right is from Amassa Back. Those are a few of the smaller jumps and drops that I frequent.

That Amassa Back looked familiar. Now I remember it. I'm not much of a jumper. You're a braver man than me!!

Hit up Buffalo Creek today and it's good to go if anyone is considering it for tomorrow.
