Congrats! I'm an old 25U so I can't say much about 12B, but I can say best of luck, have fun, suck it up, and don't mess up.

its not always the red wire.
get used to the suck
if it doesn't suck, your are in the wrong place
no mission performed by the engineers ever made sense (Dig hole, inspect, nice hole, fill it in)
remember, infantry leads the way!(after the engineers clear it)
do NOT expect to be anywhere except the field, all of the time... while with 94th Engineers I Spent 355 days out of 365 in the field one year, Top complained the CSM was getting soft
Remember, enjoy the suck. become one with it... let the suck flow through you.
DO NOT become part of a bridging element... God gave you 10 fingers, you need all 10
Going airborne is a sure way o make sure you NEVER EVER EVER leave fort Bragg. Buy a house, raise a family, you aren't leaving unless you re-up for someplace else. then you will be back
Fort Lostinthewoods has more rocks than woods, get over it.
Welcome to the Engineer Corps

HAHAHA! I know exactly what tree you're talking about! [LOL] He's not lying, it's a doozy!
Good luck, and hopefully you got it in your contract NOT to go to Drum... anywhere but Drum and you'll have a good experience! Congrats!
ETA: Byte hit the nail on the head- except I wasn't an engineer, didn't work with 'em, and only knew two of them (one was EOD, said aside from being blown up 4x in two deployments, it was the most fun he's ever had!), and that's pretty much everything they explained how it was. [Beer]

I missed the tree but many did not. [Flower][LOL]
Good luck on this next step in your life.
Remember that hundreds of thousands of people have proceeded you in this calling. When you are tempted to give in, slack off, or quit, remind yourself that you are at least as good as the worst of the multitude who have gone before. Never quit. Give it your best. Learn to live with the knowledge that you have done all that you can and try never to regret anything.
Be safe.

They make sure there's a tree outside the door of every gas chamber. Ft. Knox, Ft. Hood, Ft. Bliss, Ft. Polk, even had one on Camp Casey in Korea.
Can't help you with 12B, I was 63N and 19K.

Congrats! You'll be joining the finest Army in world. And thanks!
Any reason for choosing this MOS? Just wondering if you had other family members be engineers or if the recruiter set you into it. Can't really speak much of it since I was a 15T during my time in, and really Ft Drum isn't that bad. Thank you for your service. [Beer]
Ft Knox and Ft McClellan definitely had trees right outside the door, but the problem was the big puddle of Chilli Mac just outside the door on the way to the tree [ROFL3]
Looks the same coming out as it did going in... genius to serve that stuff before the gas house.

nope my dad was a radio operator. I chose it because I wanted to do a bit more than basic infantry. Also I've been fasnated with explosives and 12b tends to use a bit of explosives. At first I wanted EOD but all the EOD jobs were taken. Again thanks everyone for your kind words means alot!

I had basic at Camp Chaffee, Ark back in 1955 and I survived it just fine. My grandson joined the Army just one year ago and said basic is now a "piece of cake". Thanks for deciding to take the plunge and stay safe.[blaster]

I hear they now get a "time out" card to flash at the DI when they feel it is all just "too much". [LOL]I have one young Solider that has complained the "Civilians" in the shop are giving him a hard time. [Flower]
Congrats!![Beer]

you heard correct its a card you raise when your drill sgt is "stressing you out" and he has to back off. Kind of bullshit if you ask me I won't be using it.

I'm with the reserves with the 364th Sapper Engineers, curious if you joined the reserves or active duty?
I was a 19D (cav scout) when I was active duty, 12B is pretty good. I'm in a good unit where the nco's are on top of their 12B skills which reflects the good leadership.

You can have the opportunity to cross train in other MOS later. EOD has changed a lot since I was in . . . I hear the school is over a year long now and you practically qualify for a degree in Electrical Engineering when you're done.

except that the engineers really do go in first. ;)
Next time I see a commo guy dig a ditch you can drive a bus into... we can call it a ditch.
Until then it was a cute little scratch you put your field phone wires in. :D
