OK door guys. How do I fix this?

I am renting from some not so nice people so I want to spend as little as possible. My kids did this slamming into the door so it is my fix.

Short of doing it the right way, replacing both trim board and jamb...Bondo. Mix bondo fairly thick, I'd screw a couple boards to either side to form it up and I'd start with the lower half. Let it set up over night and them do the upper half. If you really want to get fancy put a couple short nails in the wood sticking out but below the final surface giving the bondo another area to hold to. Paint and it'll hold for inspection or until the next person kids the door in I mean "slamming the door in"

I am no door expert, more of a weekend diy'r but I had an interior frame broke like that when I moved into our house. Depending on the frame, you might be able to get the piece you need from the Home Depot. They sell individual pieces of the frame you use to replace it :

They also sell just the flat piece without any trim on it for like $8, which is what I used. Pop the trim off the front on the broken side and then you get access to the nails anchoring. Saw those off and then you knock out the shims which will help with wiggle room for the top of it. Then saw any at the top that you can, where the top piece joins the side. Once you get that off it shouldn't be too hard getting the new piece in. A little bit of a pain to get just one side off the frame, but with a saw zaw and a drill you can make it look pretty good. That doesn't look like a bad plan, but you'll still want to glue/nail back the piece of broken wood under it. And make sure you get the model with a latch and deadbolt cutout. And measure them to make sure they'll line up.

use liquid nails liberally and put the piece of wood back. use finish nail gun or wood screws to secure it. once it dries it will be good to go.

If you have all the pieces and can put it back together like a puzzle I would do this. Except I would use regular wood glue or Gorilla glue. I would use finish nails over wood screws.

If it were me, and I'm a very handy guy, I'd glue/screw it, and I'd finish the shit out of it so you'd never be able to tell. But this would probably be the worst option if you're not picky and can't make it look right. I'd make sure the strike and deadbolt plates were solidly anchored into more than the flimsy door jamb.

If I were recommending to a friend who is not handy at all, the armorconcepts thing doesn't seem hard to install, and it will do the job very well (the latch and deadbolt should be very solid). I don't know what it will look like when it's done though. Maybe it will look fucked up to the landlord.

If I were the landlord, I'd want you to replace the jamb. I wouldn't accept option A, because I wouldn't believe you could make it so I couldn't tell. And I wouldn't want option b because it will look like we have a security problem, or somebody kicked in the door.

When you put it all back together use at least 2" screws for the plates to get into the 2x4 framing or else you'll have the same repair to do again.
