Passions can get pretty heated in the gun-control debate, and there is some justifiable anger over the erosion of our basic liberties and rights, including the Second Amendment. That said, this "plea for civility" is timely and appropriate in the current environment.
"When once the forms of civility are violated, there remains little hope of return to kindness or decency."
Samuel Johnson
"As citizens we have to be more thoughtful and more educated and more informed. I turn on the TV and I see these grown people screaming at each other, and I think, well, if we don't get our civility back we're in trouble."
Emmylou Harris
“Civility means a great deal more than just being nice to one another. It is complex and encompasses learning how to connect successfully and live well with others, developing thoughtfulness, and fostering effective self-expression and communication. Civility includes courtesy, politeness, mutual respect, fairness, good manners...”

Jesse can take his civility to his Cafe Americain and piss up a rope. I don't care how civilly or politely or nicely someone tries to infringe on my liberties. It's still infringement.
And although it ought not to matter, I happen to be a long time gun owner, and have participated in regional matches, albeit in my younger years. And my son carries on in this. I don't speak of this much because it is not relevant to what I do intend to talk about. And I am in favor of background checks and licenses for things that can pose a danger to other people in their use, like airplanes, automobiles, and firearms.
That tells me everything I need to know about this guy.
HAH! A liberal talking about civility, that is rich.

I find it telling that Jesse's only specific examples of incivility come from conservative talk show hosts and a gun owner. Wish I could have the 5 minutes I spent reading this back...
Read my signature quote from John Adams. He had the right read on this noise.

Yes...FUUUUUUUUUCK THEM.
Liberals use reverse Psychology. What ever a Liberal Scum bag asks you to do they are setting you up.
I do the exact opposite of what a Liberal says or does.
It is the old "Moral Courage" Communist Bullshit to put you in a position to look like the bad guy if you dont go along.
I reiterate: Fuck them as stated above to that HIPPY BULLSHIT.
You ever try to be civil to an INSURGENT?
I see no reason to be particularly civil to those that choose to disrespect my rights, disregard my opinions, and continually pick my pockets to finance their agenda to deprive me of my rights, freedom, and livelihood. Fuck 'em, indeed!
Civility includes mutual respect, fairness...”
Gun owners are the new smokers. Don't you know they support killing children? Don't you know the ones who aren't vile bigots are crazed loners with Rambo fantasies who beat their wives?
The shit I see posted on the Libtard forums turns my stomach. Complete, irrational hatred of people they don't even want to attempt to understand, let alone tolerate. They want guns GONE from society altogether, as well as anyone who supports their ownership or use.

Liberals are the thieves of society who seek to steal your freedoms.. your liberties.. your rights.. and your hard earned money, to do with what they like. If you ask me, there's only one way to deal with a thief.

Where was all the request for civility when Alec Baldwin talked about wanting to physically assault non-liberals? Where was their talk of civility while Occupy Shit was engaging in screamfests? Where is their call for civility any time Bill Maher, Rosie O'Donnell or Ed Schulz got on the air? Funny how all the claims of "uncivil action" are against non-liberals while all recorded uncivil actions have been BY liberals.

Leftism, liberalism, socialism, communism, Marxism deserve no civility.
They all deserve extermination.

We are being civil ... we haven't started rounding up anti-gun dirtbags and exterminating them ... pretty effin' civil of us if you ask me.
I doubt the left will be that civil once they think they have enough power over us to get away with it (history has proved me right).
I remember my wife getting in an argument with one of her libtard friends about Obama and the libtard replied back RESPECT THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT!!!!"
My wife's friendship ending response was beautiful; Where was all this respect for the office of president when "chimpy-mc-bushitler" was in office?
There is no peace, common ground, civility or "coming together" with these people. Either one side shuts up completely or is shut up completely ... that is the only "solution" to our political differences now.
Leftism, liberalism, socialism, communism, Marxism deserve no civility.
They all deserve extermination.
I don't mind them havnig their constitutional rights until they start taking mine away, then it is GAME ON.

Incivility is exactly what the left wants, they will blame it on the conservatives so we might as well start now.
Historically, when communists (lets just call them what they are) take over a country they mark all those who are a danger to the communists, then they they kill them. The communists may imprison their enemies until they die (forget about due process), they might starve them (what about my right to eat), or they'll shoot them outright. None of these things can be accomplished while the enemies of communism have free and clear access to firearms, that is why the communist always disarms his oppenent first.
The time to be civil is over. They started a war on guns, and we will finish it in due time.

Please note that I stated "-ism" not "-ist".
Those -ism's need to be exterminated. Then we won't have any of those -ist's to worry about.
I do not believe in being civil to those that are intent on taking away my rights. They want to imprison me or brainwash me or in some other way restrict, remove or diminish my "....life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Therefore, they are my enemies.
I am not civil to my enemies, foreign or domestic.

Point taken.
The ideology that propels those -isms need to be exposed for the evil they contain. We're about 40 years behind the curve though.

Agreed, AT LEAST 40 years behind. This is the 'incrementalism' I tell people about. They have been taking small bites since Teddy and Woodrow but now they are taking MUCH larger bites and it will get more and more prominent now that Marxist-Muslim Obama has convinced roughly half of at least one generation that his way is THE way.

Keep writing, you and I are on the same page.
Incrementalism and the federally controlled education system where they teach...wait for it...socialism and entitlement.

In the 50s, communists and socialists were weeded out and identified. Now they're running the bulk of the media and infiltrating our schools so that they can spread their treasonous poison. Every time I hear about a teacher spreading leftist propaganda to young impressionable students, some pre-adolescent, I want them fired and banned from teaching permanently.

This needs to happen again, unfortunately there are some things standing in the way.
A media that is actively advocating communism under the assumption that they know what is best for the rest of us. A population that has been trained to ignore the truth, trained to avoid educating themselves on the issues of the day, to vote for a living, to praise ignorance and stupidity...I could go on.
I don't want to limit the communists right to free speech but I'd like the opportunity to rebut their lies and nonsense, a public rebuttal that the conservatives rarely get. I do believe we the people retain the right to refuse to hire them to teach our children, write our laws, and lead our nation.

They started the war on guns, Judeo/Christian beliefs, freedom of speech for those on the Right, war against straight sexual preferences, war against families and many more trespasses against us in the name of "progressive liberalism". I agree; the time to be civil is over.

Fine, communists can have their right to free speech. They can speak that trash all they want on their way to visit the bottom of the Marianas Trench.

Yep.
You want to take away my 2nd Amendment right, which one of the other amendments can I take away from you?
Of course based on the mentality of many of the people I'm seeing in the Mark Dice videos, they are willing to sign away all their rights.

Perhaps we should all be 'civil' to cancer cells? Or to the splinter in our finger? You know, talk nice to them and 'coexist'...

Heh, one of the cars in my work's parking lot has a bumper sticker saying something along the lines of "Light cannot coexist with darkness." (with the popular 'coexist' logo in there obviously)

What were you hoping for? Did you want a prayer circle where the commies and the good guys all get along? I wanted a toilet, so I could give the commies a fuckin' swirly.
My take is, I don't care what your religion is as long as you don't push your faith into politics. Theocracy is theocracy no matter how you try to sugarcoat it. That being said, if you're willing to defend my right to be a heathen I will happily defend your right to worship to whatever deity you wish even if you disagree with my lifestyle.

With Beeho's reelection last fall, the left are really feeling their oats now. No need for them to be civil since THIS IS THEIR TIME (or so they think). If this country experiences an economic collapse in the coming years it will be a nasty battle, and as the good Reverend Wright said: "those chickens are going to come home to roost". Said otherwise, you reap what you sow.

One other thought. The last (and final) time I actually listened to one of Beeho's constant stream of speeches was after the Tucson shootings by Loughner. Remember his call for civility and "civil discourse"?
When the left accused right wingers and the tea party as being responsible, what did you hear from Beeho? Crickets. He had that and many other opportunities for civility, but has instead shown leadership for venom, demagoguery, and demonization. No wonder the atmosphere is so poisoned. When you hear libs call for civility, it is either through extreme naivite or as a ploy to silence the moderates and right. In the current environment, there can be no other rational thought than to defeat liberals and progressives at every turn. No compromise, no backing down, no "toning down the rhetoric" when they amp it up at every opportunity.

"Just curious if this thread went in the direction you'd hoped for?"

It's pretty easy to understand. Gun owner's have been under attack by the left since I've been alive. A "call for civility" is liberal code for "be nice when you talk to us but we're going to say the nastiest, ugliest things we can about you even if we have to make it up".
Seeing through the progressive hogwash in the article you linked to is easy. This guy posts up about how he's a gun owner (to give legitimacy to his argument) and then proceeds to call for more gun controls and civility. An attack is an attack, some are just disguised by nice sounding words. Like "reasonable", "can't we can all agree", "common sense", etc. He's not fooling anyone. Especially most people on this site.
I'll suggest (and that's all it is, a suggestion) that if you tend to see things the way "Jesse" does, this may not be the place for you politically.
