View Full Version : Painting Black Pmags close to FDE?

Well seeing how FDE pmags are pretty hard to come by these days and might not be available before the End of June deadline, I am thinking about possibly painting some of the black pmags I have. I have searched around and found some different bits of information on other forums, but was curious if anyone here has any experience with painting their mags and getting them close to matching FDE? Thanks for any input you have.

I did search our forum and didn't find anything specific like this, so sorry if I am overlooking an existing thread

Duracoat sells a Magpul FDE and it probably works fine. If I was gonna try it I'd find some dye/paint used for car dashes and vinyl interiors. I used some on a set of VW seats some years back and it was surprisingly durable. Any coating is gonna be a distant second to a molded through magazine.

I've used the brownells in coyote on my .308 pmags, it matched the fde camo duracoat on the rifle pretty well, and it stood up to a good amount of abuse.

Thank you guys for the input. I appreciate it. ReddogFabrication your mags came out solid. I have about 10 mags to do so I think I am going to order a shake and spray kit from duracoat in fde, as well as a can of Brownells Alumahyde II in coyote and see which looks better.

I don't think that baking a PMag to set the powder coat will turn out very good, unless a puddle of plastic is your goal.....

Spray paint ...... I didn't paint the area of the mag that goes into the magwell.

What RonMexico said. Find the color that matches what you want, tape off the top of the magazine (this helps the magazine continue to fall free of the magwell. Paint tends to make the magazine hang up), and paint away. Mine come out looking like this.
