aurora res. has the state record at 43 pounds, I've had good luck at pueblo res. in the coves on the north and west ends, as well as the Arkansas river above where it goes into the fountain, just stay above the fountain merge, it goes to shit after that.... literally.

I recently had to drain a reservoir here at work and I pulled out probably 10 catfish that were all over 26" long. This reservoir is directly filled by Standley Lake so I'd imagine they are in there as well.

Boyd or horsetooth up north. I catch a lot of good eaters in WY.

Since the next question will be. Any catfish recipes? here ya go

Catfish tips:
Let sit in fresh water then rinse 1x. Before cookingplace cf in milk bath. . Before placing in pan, baking dish, grill etc wring the catfish out as much as possible. The milk rinse eliminates most if not all the "fishy, muddy" taste. I like doing a flour dredge, then egg then back to flour before frying. if broiling a nice cajun dry rub does real well. Some okies passed on the tip for a milk rinse. The guys dad set up a pool that had fresh water filtering through it cleaning out the cats 2-3 days before killing n grillin. yummmmmmmmm

I live by Standley Lake, none of the fishermen I've spoken talked about getting catfish, but then these guys fish from the shore.

the best seasoning I have used for fish so far is

Targil's freedom fry seasoning. I guess that would be a "cajun rub" because it's made in Opelousas, Louisiana.

looking at their website they may have changed to french fry seasoning.

The reservoir here is 100% filled by Standley Lake, these fish had to have come from there.

Trinidad Lake. Go to Reilly Canyon, toss a work on a hook into the river and let it float down into the lake. I have caught a lot of good sized cats doing that soon after the ice out. The biggest was a little over 10lbs, most were in the 4-5 lbs area. With the lake so low, it is a little more difficult to get to where the river empties into the lake.

They are good eating. I do good pretty much any major reservior in the Denver metro area. Aurora is where I mainly fish. Good luck in some smaller ponds to. I took a 27" channel cat out of Chatfield south ponds ice fishing last year.

Just about every warm water lake will have cat fish. I have only caught one in Colorado but i normally use lures. Look at http://www.fishexplorer.com/co/ for some good info.

I was B&R in Oklahoma, caught and ate lots of cats, mighty tasty. Cats from lakes and rivers are better tasting, the ones from smaller ponds with no water movement can be kinda nasty.

C&R state record was pulled and put back in the chatfield spillway a couple years ago, 40lbs or so.

Another decent place to get them is mid-summer up at Bingham Lake in the Pinery subdivision. Caught plenty while I was fishing for carp using bread dough and corn, as well as hooking a few on 1.5" Gulp minnows when going after the wiper, bass, and crappie.

I think this lake doesn't require fishing permit.

When i was a teenager, we'd sneak into terry res, and hammer the hell out of em off the inlet. Haven't fished there in 20years though...A bunch of the gravel ponds up in north platte can be had by salami, for the smaller tastier gawkers.

What part of TN? Me and dad used to real in 75-80lb channel cats fishing where the Southern Belle would dock at Ross's landing in Chatt. Dad caught one last summer that weighed 92lbs.
