Hi from Denver

Hello everyone-

Been lurking here for a while, reading and learning. Thought I'd say hello. Seems a positive community.

While I'm posting, quick question. I've read the Denver city ordinance regarding assault weapons, and am still confused. Is it legal to possess a semi-auto rifle IF all magazines are under 10 rounds? Or is the weapon itself illegal?

Hey, to answer your question (I used to live in Denver, but I'm not quoting directly from the statutes - just memory, so take it with a grain of salt.)

I believe in Denver, the magazine capacity limit was originally 20 rounds (now 15 rounds thanks to our statewide ban). However, Denver does ban some specific firearms. I know "Saturday Night Specials" eg Jennings, Lorcin etc. are illegal. As well as a few specifically named rifles, if I recall correctly.

The AWB(Assault Weapons Ban) of 1994 expired in 2004 so no specific rifles are illegal. The old law, which is still in place in Denver until July 1 is 20 removable magazine maximum after July 1 it will be a max mag of 15 rounds, pistol or rifle.
