Newbie Looking for Place to Shoot

I am new to these forums and was wondering where I can find a nice place to shoot. When I used to live here (I just moved back to the area) me and a friend would go to Cherry Creek Reservoir; however, I am not too thrilled about going there now.

Is there any place within a reasonable distance from the Denver Metro area without having to deal with meth heads/idiots/wannabe-gangbangers and the like creating an unsafe environment.

I would prefer some place free and a 200 yard range for shooting.

There's nice places, but you'll probably have to pay for a membership at a private club/range to avoid the knotheads. And nothing really "close" that I know of. There's a nice public range on US40 ran by the Div. of Parks and Wildlife, but it's damn near to Kremmling , between Hot Sulphur Springs and Parschall, and requires a Habitat Stamp. It's free and ungated, but no facilities and gas will eat you alive.

I personally am a member of www.blgc.org and highly recommend it. But again, not "close". Great place though.

Reasonable driving distance, free and 200 yards ARE mutually exclusive at this point. If you want to be safe too...no dice.

Colorado Rifle Club is literally the closest open membership range to Denver. About an hour drive east near Byers.

Okay doesn't have to be free but reasonable as far as cost goes.

Also, how is Colorado Rifle Club? I checked out their website it looks decent, have you been there before? On the other hand, it's very far out there I might as well be in Kansas!![Cry]

Checked out www.blgc.org it looks good too, what are the membership requirments/fees?

The other place you suggested is a little out of the question it's about 2 hours from my home!!

I am there on average once a week. Membership is about $100 or so. It is probably the best facility overall in Colorado with lots of land and lots of ranges.

Are there any requirements for membership?

One thing I noticed is that "quick draw" is not allowed so this means I am not allowed to practice any pistol drills?

Facilities vs location vs cost, CRC is your best bet. Great place and lots of activities besides just punching paper.

BLGC's requirements should be on the website. But there's no RO's except during events, and you can do any kind of shooting you want except artillery. Just clean up your mess and use common sense.
